Rebuilding

Post by TeamRicky [enjin:6648771] »

Lets face it, the Wolves are not going to be a championship team with the current core. Its time to rebuild with a strong draft. Trade Love and Pek for draft picks. We still have Ricky and Dieng to build around. I'd like to keep Corey too, but other than that we need to trade away what we can for draft picks, young players and cap space.

We'll suck for a few years but it could put us in position to finally draft the franchise player we desperately need. Actually, sucking is preferable to mediocrity as there is hope for the future.

I'm not on board with this conclusion. Not many teams improved seven games like the Wolves did, and that was with Adelman underutilizing the rookie assets Flip gave him. In the offseason we'll add at least one more piece, and start a new coach era. This is not the time to blow this team up. Try to improve another seven games...50 wins should be enough to convince Love to stay. Yes, look to improve the team by offering up assets like Pek and our small forwards, but don't blow things up. That's what teams on the decline do, not teams that improved as much as the Wolves did this year.

OP's thoughts are reasonable. Who wants to go through another underperforming year or two before they start over once again? Still, I'm with LST in believing they should go one more year though I'm also open to flipping Pek for a real NBA wing!

I think we should do everything possible this off season to build a playoff team one last time this off season around love and rubio core. Dont trade love this off season. Love is a legit nba superstar and the fanbase deserve one last push with love as the center piece. Talents like love dont come around often.

Just to touch on worldK's point. "Talents like Love don't come around often." Actually, they've never been around ever. He's the first of his kind. Kevin Love is the first player in NBA history to score 2,000 points, grab 900 rebounds and hit 100 threes in a season. I'm looking to keep a player like that at all costs.

Hire the right coach, draft the right player. Do that and let's aim once again for 50+ wins. Love wants to stay, but he wants to win. Same goes for Carmelo in NY actually. I believe both players stay with their current teams. (Didn't mean to make this a Melo post)

Despite the disappointment of not making the playoffs, this was the most fun I had watching this team in many years. I guess it all depends on perspective. While I'm not satisfied with missing the playoffs, I thought the overall quality of basketball was far superior to anything we've seen since KG was here. I think they can build off this season and be even better next season. The fans went too long without a good product on the floor. They deserve better than yet another rebuild, which has no better shot of yielding a championship team than the one we're in the midst of right now.

I know this will be shot down right away but why don't we try to do a sign and trade with the knicks for Melo, if Melo really wants to be on a winner why not team up with Ricky and Love.

Sign and trade

Min gets: Melo
NYK gets: Pek, Barea, Shved, 2014 first round pick, 2016 first round pick

Why we do it, kind of obvious we add a top 15 player in the NBA, and a person who can create their own shot.

Why the knicks do it they are against the wall if Melo want to leave, they would get a top 7 Center in the trade, two expirings (barea, shved), so after next year they would only have Pek and JR on the books, they would get a lottery pick in this years draft and one down the road.

I know I am living in a fantasy world, but if Melo really wants to win, I think the Wolves could offer him a chance to win it all.

PG: Ricky/2nd round pick or MLE
SG: Brewer/Kmart/Bud
SF:Melo/Bud/LMRAM/Bazz
PF:Klove/Melo/Hummel
C: Dieng/Turiaf/ vet min

We have to do whatever we can to get that second star. There aren't many if any available but if I'm Flip I'm calling Cleveland and offering Ricky/Pek/JJ's expiring and whatever picks they want for Kyrie/Varejao/Jack's atrocity. Then I would call up Memphis and give them Martin for Tony Allen or Courtney Lee straight up. They get the outside scoring they desperately need and we get the perimeter defender we would desperately need next to Kyrie. This league is about stars and the West is stacked with top flight PF's and PG's and this would allow us to match up and be a playoff team.

Kyrie/Jack
Lee/Brewer
Bazz/Bud
Love/Varejao
Dieng/Ronny

We need that second star and we need to find a buyer who will take anything but Love and Dieng (I think Dieng is an important building block for us now as the long-term fit next to Love).
