I think team success plays a part in that kind of recognition. Without a prior history, and a lack of notable team success, I don't find it surprising. The team needs to be more successful for players to get noticed for some of these kinds of awards.

Agreed, half the country doesn’t know or care about a .500 team from the Midwest. McDaniels is clearly a top defensive talent to anyone paying attention (hopefully they don’t pay attention until we re-sign him).
