Re: Teague talks about the Butler/Scrubs vs. Starters
I saw both of them. Sounds like KAT and Butler are fine now. No lasting bitterness.
When you listen to Teague’s description it confirms that the Butler explosion was all about the money, not about conflict with KAT. Butler was understandably pissed he was paid less than the 22 year old KAT and 23 year old Wiggins and that management refused to give him a new contract.
The organization gave up a lot to bring in Butler who quickly became the best player on the team, which isn’t surprising since he is one of the best players in the League and was squarely in his prime then. Having committed significant assets to get him, Thibodeau’s front office should have committed to Jimmy by giving him a new contract worthy of his contribution to the team. I recall Jon K reporting at the time that Thibs thought it would blow over and that Butler would eventually settle in and give his all to the Wolves that season. Thibs is a really good head coach, but Glen Taylor blundered by giving Thibs the reins as the team’s top basketball executive. Thibs had never even worked in a front office and he clearly didn’t have the acumen for the job.

How many of these behind-the-scenes stories are NOT about money?
