Post season awards

Post by FNG »

The Athletic has an article today where three analysts discuss post season awards. All three of them have the same 4 guys on all-NBA first team (Luka, Joker, SGA and Giannis), but two of them have Tatum and one has Ant as the 5th guy. Nice to hear about Ant in the discussion, but I go with Tatum all day for first team.

All three have Rudy on first team all-defense, while 2 have Jaden on the second team and one has him on the first...wow, two players on first team all-defense!

Other things to consider, but not mentioned in the article:

-will Rudy be the DPOY? A lot of talk about Wemby, but I think he gets ROY and Rudy DPOY

-will Naz be 6th man of the year? I had Monk as my first choice until he got injured. Now I think it's Naz.

Good stuff LST. Wemby was quoted last month:
“Rudy (Gobert) has a very good chance of winning it this year. It would be deserved, but let him earn it now because afterward it won't be his turn,"

It would be great for McDaniels to get an award - even if it's second team. I've been harder on him than anyone because I expected much more (offensively) this season. But that would be a great feather in his cap.

I don't see any other Wolves getting awards - but at least we have a couple in the conversations.

Who ya got for 6th man, Anthony? I defaulted to Naz after the Monk injury, but on closer look, Portis and Powell should probably be ahead of him. Vegas still has Monk in the lead and Naz second, but I think I would go with Portis.

It's not even close....T.J. Warren by a landslide

Seriously - I love to see Naz getting consideration, but I just don't see it happening. According to the betting it's going to be Monk:

Monk single-handedly took down the best defense in the NBA (that would be us), so that's a pretty strong data point supporting his case for 6th man.

Monk is one of these guys that knew his role from the very beginning (bench scorer) and has gradually gotten better and better at it. He's always been a good bucket-getter, but where he's really upped his game is in the playmaking department.

Rudy should absolutely win DPOY. He's the best defender on the best defense in the NBA. Wemby may be an emerging defensive beast, but his team is 22nd in Defensive Rating. Put Rudy on the Spurs in place of Wemby and I bet they are at least top 15.
