It's a interesting topic now, since the Vikes haven't signed a backup QB yet and they continue to get picked up.
I have 100% faith in JJ, but I wouldn't hate Rodgers here either as the week 1 starter. You never know with a young guy how he'll turn out / possibly get hurt again. If things don't go well then you can quickly pivot to JJ. It's a long season.
Kirk would be a nice backup also if he's released, which seems likely. My guess is they are waiting for Kirk to be released honestly. So that is my guess.
Aaron Rodgers or Kirk
Re: Aaron Rodgers or Kirk
Kirk does seem like the most likely scenario. I believe tomorrow is the deadline for Atlanta to release Kirk or be on the hook for another 10 mil in salary. Apparently Kirk knows his best opportunities out there are as a backup. He knows the KOC system and he and his family are familiar with the area. He would be dirt cheap since Atlanta is already on the hook for next year's salary, and why wouldn't he want to "stick it" to the team that screwed him over!Wolvesfan21 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 14, 2025 11:04 am It's a interesting topic now, since the Vikes haven't signed a backup QB yet and they continue to get picked up.

Welcome home, Kirk. I would not be a fan if he was brought in as a starter. But a willing backup is another story.

Same, I'm a Kirk fan at the right price and now position. It's always been about him being overpaid relatively to his production. One playoff win in 6 years was it? Not good enough. The goal is to win the SB.60WinTim wrote: ↑Sat Mar 15, 2025 9:45 amKirk does seem like the most likely scenario. Had he been paid appropriately just maybe we sign a stud G and DT for instance with that extra money to beef up the lines and all of a sudden we are a SB contender.
I wonder if he even sold his old house yet? It could be another factor for him just easily move back with little hassel. He knows the team, area, people, etc.. It's pretty appealing for him and us.
Re: Aaron Rodgers or Kirk
Looks like Atlanta wants to play hardball for anyone who wants Kirk Cousins. It will be interesting to see if the Vikings wait it out, or turn to another direction.

Re: Aaron Rodgers or Kirk
I'm not really sure on the details, but I know they paid him a roster bonus of 10 million. I don't think we can trade for him without picking up most of his bloated salary. I THINK Kirk is going to stay in ATL for at least this year. Maybe a team who needs a starter gets desperate during camp or something or maybe whoever between NY and Pitt misses Rodgers may jump in on trading for Kirk. I think him as a backup here isn't happening, if I understand the money a bit. He'd be too pricey.

What are the top backups getting paid? It would seem perfectly reasonable to end up having to pay Kirk at least $10 million to be a backup which is why the Falcons went ahead with that roster bonus. Will the Vikings or some other team be willing to give them some sort of compensation for Cousins that makes it worth their while? Can a deal be made to make it financially viable for the team that trades for him? Idk the Vikings seem to have something in mind because they don't seem to be in a hurry to add a backup QB. You wonder if they have a QB or 2 they think they could trade for. Once the draft is happening or completed that might make a move much more likely.

I'd give up a late rounder, otherwise look at some old dude like Flacco or Tannehill. I'm not sure who else is available.Monster wrote: ↑Mon Apr 14, 2025 6:03 amKirk sold his house last year.Wolvesfan21 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 19, 2025 4:28 pmI'm not really sure on the details, but I know they paid him a roster bonus of 10 million. Upsides for Kirk is he knows the system and team obviously, downsides is the "kirk" fans may try and put JJ on a short leash and adds extra pressure. As soon as he has a bad game which every QB does, they will likely be calling for a benching.
I'd take Kirk for sure for the 10 mill and a 6th rounder though. It would be nice to have a solid backup. You never know with those other dudes if they fall off a cliff or struggle themselves. We almost need two more QB's really.
Re: Aaron Rodgers or Kirk
Supposedly the reporting is Falcons want teams to take on 20 million of Kirks salalry and teams are more like we will pay like 10 million. If I was a team looking to trade for him I would be like you could have traded him a few weeks ago and not paid the 10 million to him but you didn't want to do that... Also it would be interesting to see if Kirk would waive his trade clause to move from being a backup in Atlanta to backup with the Vikings. I mean it probably would NE a smart move I have more faith in playing as a backup for O'Connell and the Vikings (especially with an upgraded oline) than whatever offensive mind the Falcons have. The Steelers still don't have a QB so...idk.Wolvesfan21 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 14, 2025 11:08 amI'd give up a late rounder, otherwise look at some old dude like Flacco or Tannehill.
