Good coach.

Post by AbeVigodaLive »

It's a lot easier to rip coaches than praise them. In part, they're just smarter about hoops than us. We can catch the more glaring things on tv (challenges, rotations, timeouts, basic strategy)... but we don't know what's actually happening behind the scenes. Especially with adjustments.

The Wolves won multiple games this series... in multiple different ways.
Gobert was averaging 4/6 and went off for 27/24. The Wolves shot only 24 threes in Game 2 but 47 tonight.

Now granted, some of that is dictated by the other team, too. But at the end of the day, the Wolves looked consistently like the better team. And better coached team.

I think it's time to acknowledge Finch is the best head coach in franchise history.

[Note: Every coach has a shelf life. And Finch will have more bad moments. But he's taken this team to places no other coach had. And he's done it while dealing with some significant personnel changes along the way.]

Great post. Finch has been annoying as hell at times to the Layman, but he has pushed this franchise into competitive mode with whatever roster that has been placed before him (helps having Ant). We had KG, Love/Pekovic dominating some teams, yet the teams never did anything in the postseason. Finch is really maximizing our roster. Is it perfect? No. Is it the best run we've had in franchise history? Yes. I am enjoying it.

Agreed. The ONLY POSSIBLE competition is Flip, and Flip (RIP) wasn't all that good at in game adjustments.

We also have a GM who sees things we don't....and does things he gets criticized for that seems to work out pretty well!

What's interesting about Chris Finch is that I literally know nothing about him. I mean, does he have a family? Is he married? Not that it matters, but outside of being the head coach there is nothing that distinguishes him to me.

He's also got an interesting style. I think he's a functional version of Thibs, meaning he sticks with his guys and is stubborn in his rotations, but not to the point of burning down their wicks by the end of the season/playoffs.

Another great decision by Rosas!

Don't forget Finchy made Gobert and Towns work when the world said it couldn't work. He has made Ru and Ju work as well on short notice.

I think Finch is a good coach because he has a great mix of being personable kinda fun but plenty intense and willing to get into guys in his way if needed. He seems to live and breath basketball and yet not take it or himself Too seriously. That's not easy to do.

Whether Finch is the best coach of the Wolves over Flip I'm not ready to say he is. Flip who had his flaws did some pretty good things with a roster that had some meh players playing a lot of minutes. The one year they had a really good roster if healthy a championship was reasonably possible.

Finch does seem to stick with some things too long but there are. Coaches that just go bonkers and try new stuff. Hilariously Thibs that one year changed his whole rotation once it got to the playoffs. I think in general Finch has a good staff too and I think he empowers them which is good as well.
