Julius Randle player option

Post by Phenom »

I was curious what his option date is. A quick Google search brings an AI result of June 16th. 8 days from now and a good deal before the draft. Naz, On the other hand shows the end of June. Not sure how accurate these dates are.

Assuming those dates are correct, it seems to line up well to agree on draft night to a Durant trade if Julius opts in. The Suns will likely push for that in order to get a draft pick or two that night from the Wolves or another team. I don't think they will have the leverage to demand these picks, but we shall see.

The more I think about Naz's comments after the season, I think the between the lines message is that he wants starter money no matter if he starts or not. It probably makes more sense to pay Naz starter money with Durant on the team vs extending Julius since KD is a shorter term piece.

The KD trade is really straightforward at this point. It has to be Ju, Donte, Rob and perhaps Josh. Putting Naz or NAW in the deal as a sign and trade is very complex but not impossible.

Anyway, we should have some important information on what possibilities there are soon.

Sign and trade players can’t be combined with other players in a trade.

Also, spotrac lists Ju’s option date as 6/29. NAZ is listed as 6/30.

You can be sure the parties are already talking about possibilities. Ju is extension eligible now. NAZ is extension eligible on 6/28.

Unless they announce something sooner with Ju, the draft will provide the first clues as to how the season might unfold.

This is essentially what I mean. It can be done under the pretense of simultaneous but separate trades which makes it complex, as I said before. My point stands that a KD trade is pretty straightforward.

This is a often-stated myth, and not a part of the CBA.

You’re correct, Shrink. Multiple players can’t be combined to match salaries in a sign-and-trade deal, but they can be included. That’s my understanding anyway.
