Summer League Roster

Post by 60WinTim »

It has not been posted, yet. But Matt Lloyd in his post-draft presser said their summer league roster is going to be awesome. I would think our rookies from last year -- Rob, Jaylen and Shannon -- will play. I believe our two draftees will play, Joan and Rocco, along with Jesse Edwards. I would think Leonard Miller would play as well. Here are a couple other names that have popped up in a Google search:

CJ Fulton - I am actually intrigued with this guy as a potential G-league guy -- very assist oriented, which we want working with our big guys.
Des Watson - this guys does nothing for me.

The final roster ought be posted in the coming days.

I'm struggling with why Clark or Shannon need to play, both based on their age/experience level and what they showed us last season. They have already proven that they are NBA rotation players judging by how effective each of them were during competitive games.

Dillingham played some normal NBA minutes too, but he is clearly not as developed as the other two and needs more reps as a floor general, so it definitely makes sense to get him out there.

As for Miller, it's fine if he plays, but he's already proven he's perfectly capable of putting up around 20 & 10 without breaking much of a sweat in an unstructured, chaotic setting like summer league or the G-league. His issue is probably similar to Minott's in that I'm just not sure if the coaches trust him to execute a defensive and offensive game plan at the big league level. Summer league doesn't really help with that since the coach only has the players for a short timeframe and they can only do rudimentary stuff.

Having said all of that, there is a reason outside of player development to play all these guys and that's to increase the value of our young players in the eyes of other GMs and POBOs for any future potential trades. Of course, that means they have to actually play well!

I agree with Q here. Miller unless there is an injury idk if he plays this year either and if that's the case idk what to think of his future here. I have no idea if he has any value around the league. Depending on who else we sign Miller could be in line for minutes if Naz or Randle get hurt and especially Randle seems likely to miss at least 10 games. Also if they get off to a reasonably good start this season Finch might actually play some younger guys some minutes. I'm not gonna get my hopes up there. With Garza and Minott gone Miller has moved up the line a bit in terms of a possible opportunity.

Wow. I’ll be really disappointed if this team doesn’t win the Summer League championship. In fact, I’ll be deeply troubled if they don’t. Lots of pressure on these guys, especially Rob, Shannon and Jaylen. Not surprisingly, the key to our Summer League success will be Rocco. We’ll only go as far as he can carry us.

Ha, of course it all hinges on Rocco!

As for the rest of the roster, an Edwards/Beringer/Rocco (take your pick)-Miller-Shannon-Clark-Dillingham starting lineup certainly looks pretty damn exciting on paper. How many games all of those guys actually play together is what I wonder.

I mean, Shannon had a cup of tea in the G-League last season and after destroying the competition was quickly brought back up. How does he benefit from this other than playing a game or two just to sharpen the senses?

I am genuinely excited to watch Dillingham, Beringer, and Rocco.

Q did you watch any Iowa games with Amari Bailey? When I was watching some Iowa highlights this week he was kinda popping. He is as Clark's teammate as a freshman at UCLA. His numbers in Iowa were not as good but if I remember right there were some better G-league ninbers elsewhere. I think he was a 2nd round pick higher than Clark in that same draft.

If you view ANT, Jaden and NAZ as the core ANT 2.0, then we are going to see the ANT 2.0 supporting cast in action in Summer League.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see guys like Shannon, Clark and/or Miller not play much. But there I something to be said for having them all practice together.

I know nothing about him Monster. I watched Iowa mostly during the first part of the season when Nix, Miller, and Clark were all playing regularly down there and I don't think Bailey was on the squad yet.

I remember being interested in Amari Bailey back in the 2023 draft, along with a Lip favorite, Isaiah Wong. Alas, we wound up with Jaylen Clark who wasn’t even on my radar!
