On Hoopshype, pulled from a Chicago sports station podcast with Kendall Gill as a guest:
Ayo Dosunmu open to returning to Chicago
Q. Have you ever been asked as a in consultant role or even just in conversation about how you would address what they should do next or what they should do first? Kendall Gill: No, I' I've never been asked those questions. Q. What would you tell them? Gill: I would tell them exactly what I just told you. And then I would also tell them that, and I know it's going to take a lot of money. I've discussed this with you guys as well. I know it's going to take a lot of money, but I would definitely try to go back after Ayo Dosunmu as well. And I know that Ayo, from my conversations with him this summer, would be open to it, but it's going to take a lot to get him back. But that's what I would do.
Ayo Uh-Oh!
Re: Ayo Uh-Oh!
Makes sense that a Chicago native would be open to going home and playing with guys he played with for several years. And the Bulls have the cap space to outbid the Wolves. But the Bulls still have a surplus of guards, and you have to wonder why they would spend $20 million plus to add another one.
Re: Ayo Uh-Oh!
Of course, Hoopshype also comes thru with a blurb on Derrick White!
Timberwolves have 'strong interest' in Derrick White
Similarly, league sources say the Minnesota Timberwolves — whose Antetokounmpo pursuit also appears to have cooled — have strong interest in the Celtics’ Derrick White.
The good times are rolling!!! T minus four days and counting...

So it would take a ton of money to get him to come back? Yeah I'd be cool with moving back to my hometown if they paid me enough! Maybe...60WinTim wrote: ↑Fri Jun 19, 2026 7:19 am On Hoopshype, pulled from a Chicago sports station podcast with Kendall Gill as a guest:

I'm fairly confident, Tim C will have him locked up before free agency even begins like Naz and Randle. If he doesn't than you could worry a bit, that someone comes out with a ridiculous offer.

Re: Ayo Uh-Oh!
I think Ayo Dosunmu is getting $20M+ per year... the question is whether it's with the Timberwolves or not.

This article does a nice job of capturing the Wolves’ situation. The Wolves need to clear some salary to re-sign Ayo and stay under the highly punitive 2nd Apron. That likely means finding a team with cap space that’s interested in acquiring Randle. Maybe the Celtics would swap White for Gobert but then what do we do about the center position?

Re: Ayo Uh-Oh!
Sign (vet minimum center) and let Joan and Rocco figure it out at full speed till the trade deadline and then reasses?
Re: Ayo Uh-Oh!
Let's say Ayo resigned on a deal starting at 20 million this year. If the article is right (Sportrac says they have just under 30 million in space) that gives the Wolves about 10 million to sign 4-5 players (they could just not fill out that 15th spot for a while) which means they would basically only be able to use the vet min which isn't exactly surprising.Lipoli390 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 19, 2026 2:44 pm https://dunkingwithwolves.com/recent-ay ... -offseason

One thing they could do to say a couple hundred is decline Phillips deal and resign him to a vet min deal which would cost a little less against the cap and he would probably get basically the same amount of money.
A rookie on a vet min deal will be around 1.3 million so that trade down to the 2nd round talk makes a lot of sense and getting a rookie could help them out financially since they would be be cheaper. I'd guess they are also going to want to have some sort of player that's played actual NBA games with one of their 2-way deals like they did with Juzang last year maybe even just keep Freeman idk.
Let's say they just were gonna use the vet min to fill out the roster. It's not too hard to imagine that and get maybe even resig. players they had on the roster when the season ended and if those guys don't sign there will be others that sign for the vet min. I'd like to have 5-7 million in space to sign someone but I think there will be some players you can get for the vet min that are still plenty worthwhile. And this is all of Ayo actually gets 20 million or more. What if he gets less? I do hope we aren't looking at giving him much more than 20 million...

I’m seeing it the same way, Monster.Monster wrote: ↑Fri Jun 19, 2026 3:37 pmLet's say Ayo resigned on a deal starting at 20 million this year.
