Twins waive Plouffe

Post by Monster »

It's a shame that the Twins will likely end up getting nothing from Plouffe and keeping him last year looks like somewhat of a disaster and I was a guy that wanted to keep him. He wasn't healthy and didn't hit when he was. It was time to move on.

It sucks to pile on but he should have been dealt last year when he was playing well. Sano isn't a good 3B, but playing him in RF was dumber and now Plouffe is gone for nothing.

Everybody is right. Should have moved him 12 months ago when he had value. Now, Escobar/Sano have 3rd and Vargas/Park/PopeOfRandolphAvenue have 1B/DH. And it would have been a mistake to give up on Vargas.

Will they find a way to get a true number 1 starter is the question. Any other moves will be done in vain.

I do agree with you but I don't see how they are gonna sign a true #1 guy to a team that lost 100+ games. They have to develop some 2,3 guys at least to become somewhat relevant.

The question I have now and I had it a year ago is what were the Twinss reasonably going to get for Plouffe? He had come off a nice season where he was healthy was a good defensive 3b and I wasn't sure he would have brought anything more than some prospects. That's better than nothing but you also can only have so many prospects.

Last year at this time the Twins thought they were looking to take the next step and Plouffe was a vet guy they probably wanted to lean on and figured they may as well keep around. It couldn't have gone worse similar to Kevin Martin for the Wolves last year. Plouffe didn't hit kept getting hurt and it had Sano playing in the outfield when it would have been better for him to have been playing 3rd from the beginning. The good news is at least they didn't have to pay Plouffe to go away. :p

I agree with developing guys but I haven't seen proof that they're capable of doing that. Is Radke the last guy they've brought up thru the system with success?
How many losing streaks of 6 games or more did the Twins have this yeaR? They need a guy who can stop those kind of slumps from happening. An ace doesn't have to have his best stuff every night to win games. Twins pitchers have to be near perfect to win games.

Santana was pretty good last year. Looking back at his game log he did have a stretch of games late May though early June he struggled but other than that...he was pretty good most games.

As for developing their own top level starter from their own system since Radke...damn there has to be at least a 2,3 starter in there somewhere right? I'm blanking. It's no secret though a massive reason this team has sucked the last few years is starting pitching. It was kinda decent in 2015 while last year it was absolutely brutal other than Santana. Part of the issues has been injuries to pitchers whether guys from their system or guys they have traded for. Of course the pitchers they have signed have had issues being healthy too. Seriously though when was the last time this team developed a starter that was anything more than a 4,5 starter?

I feel like having five guys capable of a 3.50 ERA is more important than a stud who can get a 2.25 paired with 4 guys all over 4.25.

I think you get one guy that is an ACE he makes everyone better. Just seem to be contagious. I know they are looking at catchers that can frame pitches. That would be a pretty big deal to me. Letting Plouffe go is interesting move. Was there a reason why it had to happen now and not in the spring coming out of camp?
