HOF game thread

MyCole Pruitt has looked good both blocking and catching the ball.

I am a little surprised Kendricks seems to be behind a couple guys at this point. Maybe it's partly how well they have played not that he hasn't been as good as expected.

Zimmer is taking the same page out of Flip's book when it comes to rookies earning their spots. Hard for a rookie to earn a spot with just training camp from 2 unique vets in Cole and Hodges who excel in coverage and blitzing and Hendricks is going to be behind both in their specialties. I would expect to see packages for all 3 throughout the year. I'm not sure how he really takes the spot as a rookie unless he just proves to be a significant upgrade in the run defense because I'm not sure there's enough time before the season for him to pass Cole in terms of coverage skills. I think we're gonna see a lot of nickel packages with Cole/Hodges and with Barr on the line and Griffin inside to have a plethora of pass rushers with a cover linebacker. The specialism of Cole and Hodges is gonna make it tough for him to break through.

As much as I like Barr, damnit I wanted CJ Mosley to be our MLB for the next decade. He was the best of both worlds of coverage and run stopping. Barr has some great versatility, but I think Mosley is just gonna be a rock for the Ravens. I know it's off topic, but I've wanted to vent over that pick for a year.

I stopped watching with about 2 minutes to go in the 3rd to go play some basketball.

I've often wondered why Cole didn't get more of a shot at playing time. He may finally have an opportunity. To me the Vikings the last couple years have had talent at LB but those guys just hadn't been able to put it together on the field. The interior DL a couple years ago sure didn't help much.

Mosley was a monster lastvyear now doubt. There were slot of Vikings fans that wanted him in that draft I remember from lurking on various boards etc. Barr has shown flashes of something special hopefully both guys can stay healthy and have terrific careers.

The other CJ Mosely has carved out a pretty decent career in the league as a backup tackle. He had/has some issues but seems like a pretty good depth guy probably would have been better to keep him around than getting Brooks Bollinger in that blockbuster deal. Lol

Hunter had some nice flashes in the game andead the team with snaps. The Vikings have been so good at finding solid to pretty good defensive ends outside of the first couple rounds for years now and Hunter might be that next guy.

I watch on Sundays, but I don't follow the Vikings or NFL like I do the Wolves and NBA. I thought Kafka looked pretty accurate in his throws. It had me thinking he could be a decent backup.

But then PA on the radio the other day says that Hill is the backup QB, and the Vikings need to decide whether to keep a 3rd QB or not. And he just assumed it would be Heinicke.

So is my impression of Kafka misplaced?

Tim from what I have read on Kafka he is a guy that could be a backup for the right team. You probably know he has some legit NFL experience. He sort of looks like Kluwe of Chris was a QB. Lol I think Lafka is getting a legit look no doubt and he looked very solid. He doesn't have a great arm but makes the throws. Probably kinda like a Shaun Hill type.

My guess is with Heinicke people assume he is getting the job because they gave him the biggest UFA contract they have ever given out (which probably isn't that big of a deal really) and I believe a decent chunk is guaranteed. They may try and sneak him on the practice squad if the gap between him and Kafka is that significant. If Heinicke sticks around on the practice squad he could have a job as a backup for the team as soon as next year and who knows a couple years from now he could be the backup to Teddy and guess what backups makes a nice chunk of change nowdays.
