Vikings won’t pick up Adrian Peterson’s 2017 option, making him a free agent
pure shock and yawn

Good. No hate for AP, he was the best in his prime and he may well still have tread left on his tires, but only if he's running behind a good line. He no longer has the kind of breakaway ability to overcome a poor line. As much as I'd love him to finish his career wearing only Vikings purple, I'd much rather see that massive money spent upgrading the line so the team can compete!
Thanks for the memories Adrian! Don't screw this up Spielman, this will all be for nothing if you don't fix that gaping hole in the offense!

It doesn't look like this story of AP and the Vikings is over yet. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

I am very curious what he signs for. I don't think he will get over 2M.
Look at his workout video.

One thing I noticed is the fast forward motion of the video. Also he didn't go all the way down on his bench with 225lbs. The jump on the box with 135lb is pretty impressive from the point of balance and explosiveness.

$$$ is tough to peg which is why he and the Vikings haven't agreed on something and other teams are probably going to have to think about it also. Supposedly this is a deep RB draft also.
One thing you can never question about AP is his work ethic. That's something worth respecting He works out hard seems to be open to innovative ways to get better and all that. It's too bad that couldn't translate to him being able to catch the ball better out of the backfield but many other RBs never got too great at that either.

I don't want him back for any price! They need a more flexible back that is a threat in the passing game even if they lose some on the running game. AP makes the offense way to predictable, and at his age he doesn't have the physical ability to overcome that with all those long runs after contact.

Yeah that's why cutting him loose when they did makes a lot of sense. Go test the market AP and then we can see what is a fair contract. If someone offers something crazy...it's up to him to take it or not etc.
Jamal Charles is a more versatile back and probably played (or didn't play) about the same amount of games as AP the last 3 years right?
Also what isn't brought up is there may be teams that are a little less than thrilled to add AP with his whole incident a couple years ago. That wouldn't keep them from signing him but it's probably a factor they consider...which is not good for an old RB wanting to make a bunch of money.

I still think if he gets 3M he will be lucky. If I am a GM I just don't think he seems appealing.

I think he would want to play another season (because he didn't play much last year) or he would just retire playing for like 2 million. If I had a real need for a RB I might be willing to give him 3 million but I get the idea that he isn't worth even that much. I still think he can be a really effective player...but that's far from a sure thing not because of age and injury and you sorta have to have a system that caters to him somewhat.
Let's be honest if you had to choose between Jamal Charles and AP for 1 million guaranteed which guy would you pick? I might pick Charles because he is more versatile although I think AP might have more left in the tank even though he is older.
