I came home last night after perhaps too many cocktails and planned to just watch replay of the first quarter before going to bed. But I couldn't turn it off. First half DLo and second half Edwards were unconscious...really fun to watch! But what really impressed me is the continuing improvement and aggressiveness of our defense. This is not anything close to the defense I have been forced to watch all season. Sure, we expect Rudy to dominate inside and Jaden to be effective against their best (non-center) scorer, but the problem all season has been our inability to defend the perimeter. Is anyone really surprised that we have the 5th worst 3-point % against at 37%? But Russell is playing the past two games like he did after the players' meeting, and has sparked a perimeter defense that held the 7th best 3-point shooting team to 27.3%! Gotta keep that going!
The good: 44-36 rebounding advantage with a surprising 8 by Jaden. Stifling perimeter and interior defense. 12 for 16 3-point shooting by our starting backcourt! Naz's footwork in the paint.
But even in our best win of the season, the bad: Our rebounding and defense when Rudy goes out...Naz/Knight/Garza were terrible on defense and had only 2 rebounds in 25 minutes. And the return of Eye Chart...some absurdly bad missed 3-pointers.
And the worst part of the evening? The second consecutive game where I didn't see KAT in the building Prince and JMac were there of course). Perhaps KAT had something better to do, or maybe if we paid him a little more, he might show up for the game.
I'm lucky to have tickets to watch this fun team in the return game on Monday, and I can't wait. Finchie has said it is difficult to win back to back games against the same team, and Sac-Town is going to come out smoking. We're going to have to play the same kind of inspired defense to beat this very good team. But if we do, we will find ourselves only one game out of 3rd place! Go Wolves!
On the Kat thing Finch talked about it that the trainers advise him to come to the game because sitting on the low chairs is bad for his calf Also there is speculation that Kat had a set back when he started to do on court stuff, Kat mentioned last week he is back in a boot for the first time since the first week of the injury.
Kek, I have the greatest respect for you if you can tell us you were able to type that with a straight face!
FNG how tall are you?
Ha, closer to Jordan "the Warrior" McGlaughlin's height than Karl Anthony "the Iron Horse" Town's height, to be honest! Get him a high chair if he needs his legs to dangle...heck, he can probably afford a comfortably padded high chair for $30 million a year! I may be wrong, but I think this has more to do with the current below zero temps in Minnesota and being a prima donna than needing his legs to dangle.
(Come to think of it, a high chair might be appropriate for a couple reasons ;-))
Towns is from NJ you think he cares that much what the temperature is outside?
Have you ever had a calf injury? It's more likely getting up from a lower chair is the issue than having the leg "dangle".

Monster, I don't know that coming from NJ would make KAT choose to be in Minnesota rather than a warmer place in the winter. Heck, I grew up in frigid Minnesota, and I still would rather be in California with my Instagram model girlfriend than here in below zero weather...that is, unless I thought it was important to be with my teammates. I'm sure JMac would be much more comfortable sitting in a recliner every night rather than showing up for his teammates, but it seems like he thinks it's the right thing to be with the team if he's getting paid. Maybe I was raised in a different era, but being absent doesn't sit well with me
I ripped Kawhi when he wasn't with his teammates during the playoffs, and it would be disingenuous to treat someone on my own team differently. It's interesting...KAT was on the bench for a few games a couple weeks ago when he was in town for his annual coat drive, and we saw him jumping off the bench and celebrating and high fiving with Nate Knight after a big dunk or great play...it was fun. Meanwhile JMac was sitting quietly on the bench while his teammates were dancing around. I remember thinking "It looks like KAT is going to be back sooner than JMac, because he's moving well." If he hurt himself and is more hurt since then and can't show up for the games, it would be nice if they told us that. Finchie did the right thing in protecting his player when the press questioned why he wasn't with the team, but I'm having a difficult time believing KAT is struggling to navigate the "low chairs" when he was navigating them just fine a week or two ago. I think we fans deserve a little more credible answer than that.

Unfortunately...
"He's a guy who's gonna be worth $400M... and like a lot of NBA players worth hundreds of millions of dollars... they hold an incredible amount of clout. As a result, most of them will simply pick-and-choose which games they want to go to during long injury absences. Sometimes, they might stay away from the team almost entirely. To be honest, most teams are just happy if the star player stays in contact with us a bit during their rehabs so we know they're (along with their own personal team of doctors and trainers) are doing the right things. Oh, and it's like really cold and stuff and there's a Kardashian party or something that includes some of the Desperate Housewives from Orange County and two of the contestants from Love Island this weekend."
... just wouldn't fly for PR reasons, even less so than the silly low chair stuff.

FNG I'm fine if it doesn't sit well with you (I'm assuming pun intended lol) that Towns isn't with the team. That's totally fair. What I don't like it that you basically are making up reasons that Towns is staying away from the team. If it was a joke that's fine but it didn't really come off that way. Meanwhile you also knocked the low chair (took the low road jk) without knowing why someone would want to avoid it.
I also agree with you that if Towns had the setback that was basically reported by himself it seems like there should have been some sort of update from the team. It would only benefit Towns IMO for fans to know that he had that setback. I get why in some cases players and teams don't want to do injury updates and it's the players and team's right to do whatever and to some extent I respect that but it's a business in which these players are very much in the public eye. I also understand that maybe they don't want to disclose as much about 1 injury because another one for a different player at some point they may have a reason they don't want to disclose things. Ultimately I'm not too concerned about it but I get the frustration level from you and others about that.
Also what if part of the reason why Towns wasn't there because he got to go to a friend or family member's kids birthday party or something like that he would normally miss because of work? Sure maybe he is hanging out with the crew or maybe catching up on Hulu or something but Towns doesn't seem like the type of guy that's just checking out. Again personally I would likely be there every game even if I had to be really chill and sit there to not injure myself. I will say depending on the injury not traveling with the team seems quite reasonable for rest and recovery treatment etc but I would personally hate it. Home games...I'd want to be there...unless there was a really good special on a pizza buffet that night. Jk :)
Monster, I think there's a lot of "well, back in my day..." and "stay out of my yard!" sentiment in my thoughts about KAT not showing up. I'll admit that I struggle with understanding today's pro athletes. I'm still shaking my head at PatBev missing the start of training camp last year so he could attend Fashion Week in Milan. Really? I understand an excused absence for something like a family member or a close friend dying, but absent that, I can't fathom being away from my teammates unless it was under strict orders from a doctor. And maybe that's the case here...it could be that a doctor is saying what Finchie is saying- that the calf is going to heal better if he is not in the arena in those bloody low seats. We just don't know.
But whatever the true story is, the fans are the losers again by being kept in the dark. I think the team's PR has been abominable throughout this ordeal. KAT gets hurt, and the team tells us 4-6 weeks. And during that time period, we see KAT dancing around near the bench with his teammates looking quite healthy. Encouraging, right? But then we hear from KAT that it was never going to be 4-6 weeks...that was just BS from the team spokesman. And next KAT is absent and we hear (but not from Wolves management) that KAT is in a walking boot. And finally, when the press ask Finchie why KAT is AWOL, he replies with the somewhat bizarre comment about the low seats. Wolves fans invest a lot of money and time into their passion for this hapless franchise, and if we can't get regular playoff appearances, can we at least get some straight information from the team? The lack of communication and coordination between KAT and management is astonishing to me.
OK, I'm done ripping KAT for not being there during the current win streak. I'm lucky and excited to have a couple good seats for the game tonight, and they're not even that low so my legs shouldn't hurt too much ;) . I'm hoping to see the return of Taurean Prince, continued hot shooting from Russell and Edwards, a Wolves win, and maybe even a KAT sighting!
It seems like some might be upset here simply because they don't have the facts straight. The team never put a definitive range for Karl-Anthony Towns' return date. I have only heard "indefinitely" or something alluding to that from members of the organization. Even loose-lipped Darren Wolfson wouldn't give a specified date range for Towns.
Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted that it was "likely" a 4-6 week recovery, according to his sources. Timberwolves PR never released that. Chris Finch never stated that nor did Tim Connelly or any other meaningful member of the organization.
