The Bucks are #1 in Offensive Rating and #17 in defense (they were #1 in defense last year). Seems like they aren't getting enough stops.

I wonder if it's possible to isolate their 1st and 2nd half offensive ratings. In regard to defense, they have a number of talented individual defenders. But teams are making more and more 3's against them as they focus on protecting the paint. Again, I think Bud can't be so rigid.

That's true, their defense is designed to protect the rim first and foremost and give up the open 3 to mediocre shooters. So many teams now have multiple 3-point shooters that it's getting harder to use this strategy. There aren't many teams like the Wolves where you can count on one hand the # of competent shooters. Most now have six, seven, or eight guys that you can't leave alone out there.

Their 1st half offensive rating is 3rd best in league and 2nd half rating 2nd best only after Brooklyn. But their 1st half defensive rating is ranked 7th and 2nd half rating is ranked almost last in the whole league (28th). So it really looks like they are not getting enough stops in the end of game.

Their 1st half offensive rating is 3rd best in league and 2nd half rating 2nd best only after Brooklyn. So Wolves actually gained one 1st round pick by taking back a 30 year old point guard coming from career year. Based on Kevin Pelton's draft pick value calculator, value of 25th and 28th picks together is clearly higher than 17th pick. If Wolves had actually drafted Quickley and kept him, this deal would look much better right now even though Rubio sucks.

I think your conclusion is that the deal looked like good value at the time based on Pelton's value calculator and Rubio's 2019-20 season, but looks bad with hindsight due to Rubio's unexpected ineptitude this season. I agree with that take.
