I voted that he should be fired, but that should be on condition of finding someone that is truly the right fit. I wouldn't want to see him fired to just go hire anyone. If Joerger became available again or Hoiberg - someone like that. But I would never want, say, a George Karl type of hire. Continuity sometimes is more important than temporary fixes.

To me it's all about defense. I can certainly understand how missing Rubio, Pek, and Martin was a massive blow to our offense. But between the three of them, Martin is a defensive liability, Pek is probably neutral, and Rubio is a plus defender. So their absence shouldn't have THAT much of an impact on defense. And I am a huge believer that ~ 50% of effective defense in the NBA is coaching. Flip and his staff have miserably failed on this front.

Your post pretty much sums up my thoughts as well. I'd add that the offense doesn't look great either. I expected things to start slow (new coach, new system etc.), but I wanted to see improvement. While there has been improvement by a few individual players, as a team - I'm not really seeing it. Other teams move the ball with ease to score at will against our defense. And on offense, it just looks awkward and forced at times. I realize Rubio will help. But as others have pointed out, you can only put so much on his back.

Part of me feels like this is all going according to the plan. Flip was going to be just a place holder this year for the next guy. And the best present Flip the place holder coach can give Flip the GM is a good draft pick. Brilliant!

Well, I certainly hope Flip views this as purely an interim situation, but I could see him going another year before making the transition. My sincere hope is that he has s short-list of names with guys like Joerger, Hoiberg, and may be few others on it. And once one or more of those guys gets freed up or is willing to make the move, he then quits in conjunction with making the hire. But I don't see that happening for another year or so.

As for the offense, I agree that it doesn't look good, but that is where we are stretching people way beyond their comfort zone. Pekovic, Martin, and Rubio carry a massive load offensively between playmaking and scoring. The domino effect of their absence has led to guys like Thad Young and Andrew Wiggins being made the #1 and #2 scoring options and a ridiculous situation at PG, where we are literally playing someone unqualified for the position in Zach LaVine for half the minutes.

Flip is a genius.

Everybody has already read my take on it, but here we go again. Somehow, Flip is one of the most "powerful" men in the NBA. Part owner/GM/coach... with NO PRESSURE.

The team was supposed to be bad. The injuries are only helping. By adding the coaching gig, he bought himself more time as GM. Brilliant. (1) The team does ok and Flip continues to be one of the most powerful men in the game. Everybody is happy with him in dual roles. (2) The team sucks for a couple of years. And Flip gets to go with the "I'm letting somebody else coach so I can concentrate on my GM duties. That buys him more years as GM... and more years waiting for the Wolves to get good... or even respectable.

Say what you want about Flip. But the guy manufactured this situation and put himself in a great spot.
