Rebuilding time...who goes?
Re: Rebuilding time...who goes?
Flip had Amir Johnson in Detroit. Toronto has 4 Cs and 4 PFs. Martin for Amir Johnson, plus whatever else is needed to make it fair for both sides (the $s match)?
Re: Rebuilding time...who goes?
Pek or Thad would be Miracle trades right now. I would love it if Flip could pull either one off. Thad may be able to be moved just because he is expiring but that would mean we are taking a long term contract on. That is really the only thing we would be looking at realistically. If there was an over valued vet that would fit into our long term building. Similar to what the Kings did with Gay. Joe Johnson and David Lee would fit that bill.
I still say we should try to make a Thad for David Lee trade somehow. GS needs to make space because they will not pay the luxury tax to keep Lee. We may have to give up an asset like GR3 but that immediately upgrades us at the 4 for next year while our lottery pick develops behind him.

We're not talking about a Wes Johnson or Derrick Williams dumpster fire trade here, nor would we be talking about someone trying to force their way out. All else being equal, I prefer to keep Shabazz. He's been one of the few productive players we have. But what if, for example, Milwaukee offered Giannis for him? Or Utah offered Gobert for him? (by the way, I don't see either team willing to make that deal in a million years). Just wondering what kind of value folks would expect back.
If we were to trade Shabazz I would want it to be for a bonafide Roster player with a fair salary. I just don't see that happening. I wouldn't trade him for another draft pick personally. I think his development is going to well.

It's the idea that Wiggins and Bazz are redundant that bothers me. And even if they were, you can't have too many good players. Portland had Clyde Drexler so they took Sam Bowie over Michael Jordan. Oops.

I agree 100%. This is why I want them to keep starting together. I love them being interchangeable at the 2/3. Matchup nightmare.

I want them both in there too.

This is why Martin, who is on a great team valued contract and can shoot the lights out, might be the one that is the best for the TEAM to be traded. He is actually in the way of player development. By the way, here is what he was traded for last time:
After agreeing to the framework of the deal the day before, the Wolves acquired Kevin Martin via a sign-and-trade maneuver with the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday night and dealt Luke Ridnour to the Milwaukee Bucks.
The Bucks also got a 2014 second-round draft pick from the Wolves. The Thunder got the draft rights to second-round draft pick Szymon Szewczyk from the Bucks. The Thunder also sent an undisclosed amount of cash to both the Wolves and the Bucks.

I like a Martin trade just fine. But I don't mind having him on the team either. His only probable destinations are contenders, so maybe a market will emerge for him. We likely wouldn't be looking at much value in return? An expiring? A really late 1st? We may as well just keep him for those options. Would be interesting to list the dream 6 million dollar players we could get in return though.

Re: Rebuilding time...who goes?
You know, teams actually can and have developed players while having good veteran players next to and ahead of them on the depth chart. Chicago, San Antonio, Oklahoma City, Indiana, Portland, Golden State, etc. All of the good/great teams do this. This rush to trade Martin for the sake of developing players might actually be counterproductive. Who are the players that he's affecting negatively? Why aren't there enough minutes for Wiggins and Muhammad to get consistently while seeing what LaVine and Daniels can do at times? The answer is that there are plenty of minutes and Martin is not a negative on this team. Getting rid of him would be a tanking move; one that we don't need to make.
Not to mention, all of us want Rubio to develop into the All-Star point guard this team needs. Are we [Wolves; Flip] really going to hurt his supporting cast by getting rid of our best shooter/scorer? Do you want him (Rubio) to have anybody to drive and dish to that can actually make shots consistently? Some of you really are too quick to want to trade guys without fully thinking about the ramifications. Martin's one of the best catch-and-shoot players in all of basketball, and we're supposed to trade him because he's blocking Zach LaVine and Troy Daniels from getting 48 minutes apiece? I don't agree with that take one bit, and Flip likely doesn't either.
Also, I'm not sure trading Muhammad does anything good for what we've currently constructed. As of now, he's a building block for what we have moving forward. Dealing him would be in hopes of getting another young player with potential, and most teams would be opposed to that. Not to mention the guy keeps getting better and we need guy's that can shoot, cut, rebound and play with great effort. Bazz does all of that and he's 22 years old and trending up. I'm not saying anyone is un-tradeable, but realistically it's not even worth mentioning.

Re: Rebuilding time...who goes?
All good points, Cam. For me, I would only consider trading Bazz or Martin if we were getting a known starting PF in return.
