Wiseman is ducking the Wolves according to Doogie and Windhorst
Re: Wiseman is ducking the Wolves according to Doogie and Windhorst
The players can do whatever they want to try and steer their way to a spot. Depending on how far they go with it I don't really mind it too much. I mean can I really blame Wiseman IF......he wants to go to the Warriors instead of maybe playing the same position as Towns with a franchise that's been mostly a dumpster fire? Isn't that sort of a positive that he is Supposedly looking for a good situation instead of just wanting to be #1? Meanwhile the Wolves or whoever can take him.
Re: Wiseman is ducking the Wolves according to Doogie and Windhorst
As I mentioned in the draft thread, I don't believe the report. I can't think a less reliable "reporter" than Doogie. I also share Cam's lack of confidence in Windy unless he's relaying messages from the LeBron camp.
Wiseman is publicly lobbying to be the #1 pick. The Wolves have the #1 pick. Wiseman is a smart dude. Therefore, the report doesn't make sense.
Wiseman says he should be the #1 pick and I hope the Wolves agree. If by chance he doesn't want the Wolves to draft him, he wouldn't need to be "ducking the Wolves." His agent would simply call Rosas and tell him he'd prefer it if the Wolves passed on his client. In any event, neither calling Rosas nor "ducking" the Wolves - whatever that means - can stop the Wolves from drafting him and either trading or keeping him. And Wiseman surely knows that. Wiseman and his agent also know that, if the Wolves draft and keep him, he'd likely be a starter next to KAT because you don't use the #1 pick to acquire a role player off the bench. If Wiseman truly believes he can be a great player, then he'll see the opportunity to become a third star for the Wolves, which would make the Wolves a contender. That might be better than being a 19-year old on a team of 30 year old stars with high expectations and only so many productive years ahead of them.

I dont believe the reports as well. Whoever is Wiseman's agent wont want to burn bridges with any organization. If I were an agent, Il tell wiseman to meet with the wolves and secure the most money on his rookie deal. Number 1 pick money is a lot higher than number 2 pick money. Agent gets a cut of the deal. You can force trade or what later. But you take the most money now and make a name for yourself.

Just straight up tell Wiseman and his camp if he doesn't want his ass parked on the bench for his rookie year to get his ass to MN and interview for the top spot and then when he gets here prop up the duo of him and KAT as a new age in the NBA. This shit isn't hard. These divas think they have power but they don't. This is where Rosas needs to show some leadership and vision and get a guy like Wiseman on board if he's on the fence. Only bad organizations get bullied by draft prospects.
Maybe he doesn't wanna get drafted because he sees this very scenario playing out.
Most of us want Wiseman, sure, but I think we have to admit that for the Wolves to pick Wiseman, they'd have to philosophically change everything they've been selling to us and I just don't think they're willing to do that.

Should he not have the same worry for the Warriors then who are a notorious small ball team with Draymond at the 5? Especially as Draymond ages, he might not be able to play the 4 any more and offensively he's certainly worse than Towns from a spacing perspective. Both teams are in the same spot. They have 5's who would slide down to accommodate him. Is he cool with being benched down the stretch of important playoff games if his defense isn't up to par as a rookie?
Re: Wiseman is ducking the Wolves according to Doogie and Windhorst
I listened to the podcast which included a draft guy Mike Babcock as well. Do I believe the reports about Wiseman? Idk and as I said before I don't really care. I defend Wolfson but him praising Windhorst as being so so so so great isn't exactly a feather in his cap. I'm not a fan of Windy.
One of the reasons I don't believe the report and even the idea that Wiseman isn't a fit here is look at the Instagram posts Wiseman etc has put out. Yes one had him in post up situations but many of the rest of him are his doing dribbling moves etc. I'd guess Wiseman thinks he is more than just some classic center that's just gonna park himself in the paint and stuff. I'd guess he things he has the potential to be a really dynamic guy able to do a lot of things with the ball. Does he have that talent? Idk but what I've seen and heard of the workouts he is doing I've increased my ceiling and value of him as a prospect.
If you believe anyone on this podcast they all agreed that Charlotte moving up for Wiseman as most people think GS will take Wiseman if they use there pick. The question is what would Charlotte give up and what would the Wolves accept. As it's been mentioned already whoever gets picked #1 makes more money. It also means if you trade down you can save some cash which isn't why you make the trade but it's a nice additional benefit if you get an asset and still get a guy you REALLY like. Idk if Charlotte will give up that future 1st to make it happen. If the Wolves really did value 3 guys equally they could settle for something less like #32 and Maybe even someone like Bridges. I still kinda like Bridges and I wonder if maybe he could be flipped for a future pick or as part of a trade up scenario. I really can't say what his value is now. I'm not saying that's a great deal or anything but just simply saying if the value of 3 or more guys is the same then taking whatever you can get makes some sense. Getting another pick in this draft would mean figuring out some way to get value out of it. Of course There is also the Further trade down scenario suggested which would be on the table here also. It certainly would be nice to come out this this draft with at least one 2021 first round pick. It does seem like the chances of a college basketball season happening are somewhat decent.

Good post, Monster.
You've identified further evidence that the report about Wiseman "ducking" the Wolves is bogus. In fact, one of the major criticisms of Wiseman is that he fancies himself a perimeter, ball-handling, jump-shooting guy on the offensive end. Again, Wiseman is a smart guy who speaks multiple languages and excelled academically. He certainly understands that the way he wants to play would fit the Wolves system under Saunders and that KAT's ability to play in the low post could actually free up Wiseman to do more things on the perimeter.
Beyond that, I agree totally with your bottom line that where Wiseman wants to play doesn't matter and should not impact the Wolves draft decisions on the 18th.
I've seen enough credible reports about Charlotte's interest in Wiseman to believe that it's probably true. If nothing else, it just makes for at least two reasons. First, Wiseman would fill the Hornets' biggest need given their current personnel. Second, I'm now convinced that Wiseman is clearly the best talent in this draft - which is why I now favor the Wolves drafting and keeping him.
Regarding who or what the Wolves get in return for swapping picks with Charlotte, I initially thought Miles Bridges would be a good return for the Wolves. But I'm less interested in Bridges after doing some more homework. His 42% FG percentage last year is sub-par for a SF/PF and his 32% 3-point percentage last season is uninspiring to say the least. His 5.6 boards in 30 minutes last season looks pretty good but not overly impressive. He's always been a poor ball-handler so he really can't initiate offense or create. And I just saw that his wingspan is only 6'9.5. That's undersized for an NBA SF and it's considerably less than Okogie's 7'0 span. I know he's still pretty young and he hit 38% of his college threes. He's also a terrific athlete and was a good defender in college. But I don't know that he's enough of a return for giving Charlotte the rights to a player they covet. Because I believe that Okongwu is almost as good a prospect as Wiseman, I might do that deal. But it doesn't blow me away. If we get a future pick in return, the protection has to be less than full lottery and it can't eventually revert to a 2nd round pick.

The Warriors won titles with Andrew Bogut at C. They can still have a small ball lineup, but if your small ball lineup is your regular lineup, then you're not playing small ball anymore. You're just a team lacking size. If they go into the season with a lineup that requires Wiggins to play the 4, they'll wish they had a Wiseman.

You think its possible that this so called ducking stuff was put out there by either gs or new orleans as they are worried we would possibly select him and to push us away or to push trade value down making it seem like we wouldnt take a guy who doesnt want to be here?

Short answer -- YES
