At this point I need to see Simmons mental evaluations and see him play before I would trade for him. If his mental issues are this bad right now there is a chance he never plays again...if he is faking it nothing will stop him from pulling the same thing here. Very good point. If we got serious about a trade, we would need Philly's permission to talk with Simmons, and Gupta would have to evaluate his readiness. I suspect his "mental issues" are an excuse to not play, but we don't know. More importantly, I would want Gupta to gauge Simmons' interest in coming here. Anything short of "Do I want to come play with KAT, Ant and PatBev...hells yes!" would be not enough for me.

Agreed, I think his mental issues are simply another excuse to not play for Philly. I mean they "came up" right when he joined the team and was practicing.
I think he simply is done in Philly and is doing whatever it takes to leave. I do not think he is retiring from basketball.
You definitely would need to talk to him without question.
I know this trade idea won't be liked here, but I'll present it anyways. The Wolves need reinforcements on the perimeter -- on the wing. They desperately need another ball-handler. They need to improve their three-point efficiency. They also need another big, but I feel like these are the areas where Minnesota needs the most help. As mentioned multiple times, the Wolves have far too many wildcards receiving significant minutes -- practically every wing on the roster.
Minnesota:
- Derrick White ($54.3M through 2024-25)
- Doug McDermott ($13.75M in 2022-23, $13.75M in 2023-24)
= $28.9M salary match
San Antonio:
- Malik Beasley ($15.6M in 2022-23, $16.5M TO in 2023-24)
- Jaden McDaniels ($2.2M in 2022-23, $3.9M TO in 2023-24)
- Taurean Prince (expiring contract)
= $29.5M salary match
This trade quietly accomplishes a lot for Minnesota. They add an above average combo guard in White who can play on and off the ball. He's an upgrade on both ends of the court from Beasley albeit at the cost of some [streaky] perimeter shooting. White more than makes up for his average outside shot with an ability to score and facilitate off the bounce that Beasley will never have. He's also a capable point guard replacement in the event one of Minnesota's starters misses more time later in the season.
The Wolves would also be adding McDermott who, as we know, can light it up from deep and keeps opposing defenses busy with his off-ball movement. The Wolves have generated plenty of open/wide open looks this season, but they haven't had a shooter that could bury such looks to make the defense pay for their double-teams and late rotations. Well, that's what McDermott does. Minnesota needs shot-makers to take the pressure off of their little-big three.
The Spurs receive future savings to the tune of $64M in combined salaries. They also take an educated gamble on McDaniels' size/length combination in hopes of smoothing out his offensive game and perimeter shot.
No draft picks would be exchanged in this deal. Minnesota would have eight reliable NBA players in their rotation with a potent bench combination of White, McDermott, and Naz Reid. Minnesota could still look to add a veteran big to the mix using their smaller contracts and/or picks to round out the rest of the roster -- someone like Alex Len or Robin Lopez.

I was just thinking he's cheap (10mil) and could be acquired for very little as an expiring contract.
Why is it the same fans that hated the idea of tanking and possibly drafting a guy like Mobley are willing to throw away draft capital and players now to attain a big man? While the draft hasn't always been kind to the Wolves it is still the best way to find sustained success in this league. Giving picks away is not a good idea in my opinion.
