Thibs was right, Jimmy was right.

Don't want to hear it wasn't in the timeline for the Wolves.

Bam: 3rd year player
Robinson: 2nd year player
Herro: rookie
Dragic: vet middle tire starting pg.

Also off of not making the playoffs for the heat

Thibs was right and Wolves fucked it up.

But get rebuild of the rebuild is happening

Go wolves

I'm not giving Thibs credit for anything. He coulda did something about it but instead sat there and watched Rome burn. To hell with Thibs.

If he thought Wiggins and/or Towns weren't good enough, he had 2 options:

1. Get rid of them and build around Jimmy (he had the right to do that. It was his job)

Or

2. Don't take the job at all because clearly there was a young core the franchise had in mind that everyone seemingly liked (that now everyone was wrong about but just won't admit it)

There are reports in the year the wolves traded lavine and the offseason after that Glen Taylor didn't let thibs trade wiggins.

He added a player who is the best player on a finals team. I'll take that any day of the week

He was allowed to trade Rubio and spend that much more on Jeff Teague. If he was gonna get pushback from Glen on a job title he gave Thibs, don't take the job.

When things got tense, Thibs did nothing when it was his job to make some tough decisions.

He wanted to keep Jimmy. But then the owner decided to make a trade by himself and didn't let thibs be involved in the trading of Jimmy

I don't recall those reports - at least not from any reputable reporters. I've talked a a number of pretty connected people since that time and every single one has told me emphatically that Glen did not stop Thibs from trading Wiggins for Butler. I'm told that Thibs saw Wiggins as the most talented player on the team - as did Butler if you recall - and Thibodeau through Butler would help his development. Thibodeau was given complete control over basketball personnel. There is absolutely no evidence suggesting that Thibs had anything less than full control. To the contrary, Rubio was Glen's favorite on the team, yet he allowed Thibodeau to trade him.

When Thibodeau took job here, he said the Wolves had the best young talent in the NBA. He didn't suddenly change his mind. He knew that Wiggins and KAT were the two most talented players on what he considered the most talented young roster in the League. He simply thought that by bringing in Butler, he could take the team to another level much faster. Actually, Thibs turned out to be right. But then things imploded when Jimmy became jealous of the KAT and Wiggins contracts. Thibodeau thought winning would cure Butler's dissatisfaction, but it obviously didn't. The rest is history.

Butler is a really good player and a winner. No doubt about that. He had only one really good player with him on the Wolves and that was Towns. Wiggins put up hollow numbers and Teague was inconsistent. If Butler and Towns had Herro, Robinson and Dragic with them on the team and if Butler had stayed healthy, the Wolves would have probably had more success that season. Heck, if Butler hadn't gotten hurt, the Wolves were on track to finish in the top 4 or 5. Imagine a healthy Butler that season and imagine further than we had Dragic, Herro and Robinson instead of Wiggins and Teague. Oh, and imagine if our head coach had been Eric Spoelstra.

I'll disagree with the bolded. I think he saw a year of this team (that first year where they underachieved) and decided he wanted to do something else. LaVine tearing his ACL sealed his fate because even if Thibs liked him I don't think he wanted to wait for him to come back. Glen deserves most of the blame for the whole "look me in the eyes" thing he had with Wiggins, but if Thibs had so much opposition to a Wiggins extension then (as he should have), then he shoulda fought for that and he didn't. The fact that he didn't set him up to be undermined going forward. Glen was wayyyy too worried about Wiggins' feelings if he didn't get extended right then and there. He misread that entire process and Thibs did nothing to speak on that.

I'm just a frustrated fan, more then anything and don't want to make this thread into a Thibs thread. Just seeing Jimmy make the final makes me sad. We had that guy. The Heat lost lebron, wade and bosh 5 fucking years ago and they are back into the finals with no players from that team outside of haslem who doesn't play. No player who played tonight for Heat was signed via free agency (Jimmy sign and trade) and they didn't have a pick better then 10. They had some terrible contracts in waiters and olynk. They are back in the fucking finals.

Now look at our Wolves. 1 playoff appearance in 17 years. They have 2 max players on the books. We have 3 top 10 picks. We finally might have found a diamond in a rough in Beasley (i have doubts but still I'm excited about him) and he gets arrested today and his time as a wolf could be over. Our star player who i still like a lot in Kat is now in the celebrity spot light getting into the Kardashian universe (his life he can date who he wants). This is after another year of sucking and the dude v who pretty much called you a bitch is in the finals showing you up. We also have no legit cap space young forward, have the #1 pick in a year where there isn't a for sure #1 prospect. Unlikely to have a pick next year. Have one of the worst coaches in the NBA because of his last name. The worst owner in the NBA and he is selling abs i hope they don't move.

I'm just worn out as a fan. We are realistically rebuilding the rebuild again in 2 years.

Thibs getting Jimmy and seeing on court success is so rare for us fans so maybe that's why i cling to Thibs a lot.

The heat made the fucking finals in 5 years after losing 3 HOF, signing no free agent and having no top 10 pick while the Wolves are selling hope to just rebuild in 2 years

Ha. This morning I was reading an article and it mentioned this is the first Heat's championship appearance since 2014.

It stopped me for a moment. The way it was written, or the way I read it, made it seem like it's been quite awhile since that appearance.

_______

- The Timbewolves have made the playoffs once in 17 years... and have won playoff series only once in 32 years.
- The Vikings have never won a Super Bowl in 60 years.
- The Twins haven't made the WS since 1991... and 3 - 23 in the playoffs over the past 15 years or so.
- The Wild have never made the Stanley Cup. The North Stars never won a Cup.

______

Yuck. We're Loserville.

How could any of us not be frustrated! As Bill Clinton used to say, I feel your pain. :).

I read those reports you posted above. I had totally forgotten about the rumors involving a possible trade for Kyrie Irving. That would have been a great move. From everything I've heard, Thibodeau had free reign to do whatever he wanted. But if these reports are true, then Glen is more of an idiot than I thought -- and I didn't think that was possible.

In any event, the Wolves organization has been dysfunctional or just plain inept for a long time. And at the end of the day, it all leads to the top of the organization and that's the owner, Glen Taylor. I just keep waiting for a sale announcement. I wish Garnett would put a group together and buy the team. But we'll see.
