Won't the toughest issue for the Lakers be that they really want to shed his contract via trade free up more cap space? If they buy him out there is still the cap hit. To me this might be a time to make a lowball offer for a team on one of their young assets while taking on Deng at the same time. I think the Lakers will try everything in their power to not do a buy out and go for a trade if they are serious about being real players in free agency. I would think that a team willing to take on Deng's salary could get Randle or Nance or even Kuzma if they are more creative and willing to part with real assets of their own.

Wins are more important than stats. The guy just wins a bunch of games. He helped ATL get to the top spot in the conference and last year he helped Boston get there. It's not just a coincidence that he's been on multiple top teams. He's a solid player and it looks like he does a lot of stuff that doesn't show up on paper that just wins a bunch of games. He's overpaid if you are championship or bust. He's properly paid if you just look at how much winning in general he does for a team.

I'd be all for signing Deng to vet min deal if he gets bought out. He's the type of player that Thibs can get the most out of, even at age 32. The Lakers just weren't a very good fit for Luol.
