Thibs is a bit of a paradox though. Yes, he is hard-nosed and barks on the sidelines, but as we have talked about before, when has he ever benched one of his "stars" for lazy or poor decision making? I've certainly seen him do this with his bench guys (I recall a few times last year he'd turn in disgust and look down the bench and say "Ricky!", meaning Dunn or Jones just did something ill-advised....most likely Dunn). But for a while there KAT, Wig, and LaVine were leading the league in minutes. Yet he couldn't move the needle one bit on our defense from Sam Mitchell!?
There is persona and then there are tactics. Thibs gives off a tough-guy persona, but I'm not sure his actions always reflect that image.
BTW, it can work the other way around - and to me is probably more effective. Be more soft spoken and cerebral, but apply a heavy stick via selective benching.

Q - I am with you. I think being a dick 100% of the time is less effective than picking your spots and bringing down the hammer when you have to. It is certainly a balance though and some coaches can't bring it when they need to and that is the problem. I really think head coaches earn their checks with second unit play. Getting a bunch o borderline NBA players to play well together is a challenge. Hoiberg has garbage to work with, but he has them playing defense this year.

Good points Bleed. I don't claim to be an expert on coaches and I really don't understand why certain coaches get more out of their guys than others, as it does seem there isn't a one-size-fits-all approach. But at the end of the day, you have to question the guy in charge if he's known for being a defensive guru and then he can't get his team to play defense.
Again, we'll give him more time, need to be patient, etc., etc.

Jimmy distances himself from
Hoiberg here a bit. It's getting a little bit of push in the media.
This article and video is hilarious. IMO Butler has some good things to say here as well.

It's interesting because he got those 2nd unti fringe nba guys to play real good when be was with the Bulls.
That has yet to really happen yet with the wolves

Re: Hoiberg vs Thibs
I always liked how Thibs could take any PG and make them look good. It seemed like he was getting the most out of his teams. Here it has been a different story. I think Flip built a team to fit him and that doesn't fit with Thibs.
Anyways I saw this article on the Bulls. Oddly it seems like they are in a better place this year than last via addition by subtraction. The wins are not showing it, but expectations were pretty low.

Re: Hoiberg vs Thibs
I'm a Hoiberg guy but every year that guy has coached the Bulls there has been some sort of significant strife/blowup. This year a player punched in the face of another player. The previous years there was fractures in the locker room. That doesn't mean Hoiberg is the problem but...it's worth thinking about.
