Yep. I've been excited for this draft for many months and today I've felt zero enthusiasm because all the signs lead to the Wolves making a mistake tonight.

How about when the Wolves passed up Giannis for Shabazz Muhammad and Rudy Gobert for Gorgui Dieng in the same draft?
Those are different because hindsight is used. Not even the bucks thought giannis would be this

Agreed. He is not the perfect fit, but he is by far the best talent in this draft. You dont mess around at #1.
I'm very concerned that Rosas is closed minded about adding a true center like Wiseman and so I don't have my hopes up. He's indoctrinated in the Rockets small ball philosophy and he wouldn't play KAT and Gorgui together even when Gorgui was playing great last year.

Lots of teams passed up on Giannis. Not many are going to pass on Wiseman.
Indiana's GM thought about taking Giannis #2 overall (over Oladipo) but decided against it because he admitted he didn't have the guts. Atlanta secretly flew Giannis to Atlanta for a workout pre-draft and made him a promise at #16, tried to trade up and had no idea Milwaukee was willing to take him. Given Shabazz didn't even fit the Wolves needs, it seems inexcusable to miss out on a guy like Giannis after trading down.

It's worse than that. They passed up Giannis for Bazz after trading down when they could have picked McCollum. But it's even worse. They didn't pass up Gobert for Gorgui. They could have had both, but instead sold for cash the pick they could have used to draft Gobert.

I forgot about McCollum and completely missed the cash for pick part. Thanks for reminding me that the draft was even more embarrassing than I thought. I know Flip loved Oladipo (as did I) and tried to trade up for him, but it seems we had no other players we liked. It felt even after that draft that the Wolves picked Shabazz because they felt like they had to rather than because he was a good fit or because he had great upside.

Great post Lip. I remember you and I pining for McCollum that night.
