The Athletic Staff:

"Philadelphia 76ers players wanted to travel to Los Angeles this week to meet with Ben Simmons and spend time convincing their All-Star teammate to commit to the 2021-22 season with them, but they were informed not to come and that Simmons did not want to meet, sources tell The Athletic.

The core leaders on the 76ers -- such as Joel Embiid, Tobias Harris and Matisse Thybulle -- and most of the team were set to take a jet to see Simmons before being turned away, sources said. Multiple sources said Simmons didn't want his teammates, some of whom he considers friends, to make the Philadelphia-to-Los Angeles commute out of courtesy because he won't change his mind on wanting a trade.

The 76ers' training camp begins this upcoming week, with Media Day on Monday.

Simmons has mentally checked out as a member of the 76ers, sources said, meaning whether or not he ever appears in Philadelphia this season the organization may never again receive the same dedicated player."

Thanks for posting Cam. That's important information, which confirms what many of us have concluded - namely that Simmons is done with the Sixers and is NOT going to return even if it's only as part of a charade to bolster his trade value. This last-ditch effort by the Sixers to repair Simmons' trade value is really pathetic. The idea of Joel Embiid flying to LA to tell Simmons he wants him back is laughable after Embiid publicly blamed Simmons for the Sixers' playoff woes, which came on the heels of a relationship that has reportedly been strained for at least a couple years. Doc's latest effort to walk back his thinly veiled post-playoff criticism of Simmons was sophomoric and cringe-worthy. If I were Simmons I'd find these disingenuous appeals insulting.

The good news for the Wolves or any other team interested in Simmons is that Simmons is serious about moving on from Philadelphia and it's highly unlikely the Sixers will be able to successfully rehab his trade value.

What are your thoughts?

I think you nailed it with this comment. Ben Simmons (and his agency) have made it plenty clear for months now that they want him out of Philadelphia. It's been such a strong plea to trade him from what I've gathered that I said long ago that he wouldn't return to the Sixers under just about any circumstance.

On top of that, NBA teams have even more information than we do on the subject of how badly Simmons wants out, which will almost certainly result in a lower trade value and lesser return than what his on-court ability would suggest. It's for this reason that any suggestion of trading a highly-touted young player for him just isn't realistic to me. No Anthony Edwards. No Tyrese Haliburton. No OG Anunoby. The Sixers have positioned themselves here by completely mismanaging their star player and the rest of the league will not let them off the hook for it. I suspect that Daryl Morey will hold out for as long as he can, but the reality is that Simmons' trade value is locked in right now. It cannot go up because he won't return to the team, and it can't really go any lower than this because of his resume at the young age of 25. That probably leads us to that other report of Morey wanting to get a deal done in the next week or so.

Darren Wolfson: Sachin Gupta wants Ben Simmons. The same hurdles remain, but can he now be more creative on three-team scenarios? That still seems to be the key. But make no mistake: Gupta is all in on acquiring Ben Simmons.

IF...the reporting is true and Rosas was being somewhat difficult to deal with both around the league and even frustrating Morey then maybe Gupta has a better shot of getting something done. Bobby Marks said he thinks and has heard that Gupta has a better relationship with Morey than Rosas does. Wolfson agreed. I'm still not getting my hopes up.

My updated prediction on Ben Simmons: He will not play for the Sixers this season. Doc Rivers recent comments cemented it in my mind. Good luck Daryl.

Ha. Better pay attention to those election audits. The truth will be exposed eventually. But yeah, Doc Rivers has only exacerbated this entire situation.

Lol. I hadn't heard about that comment. Wow, Doc sure knows how to keep digging. Or maybe he's just sick of this whole drama and is basically trying to force Morey's hand and get this over with. In any event, the Sixers organization has been a clown show ever since this year's playoffs.

Maybe I should clarify since I posted this that I think this was a bad joke for Doc to make in this situation regardless of what I or anyone else believes about the election results.

I hadn't dug very far into Doc's comments the past few months but I tended to want to defend him to some extent or possibly give him the benefit of the doubt about the Simmons situation. Not anymore.
