Doper, I'm not fully convinced these offers have actually been made, especially when some of the reporting is coming from a Sixers beat reporter. Mind you, this is the same reporter that said Tyrese Maxey would be included in any deal for Ben Simmons because they share the same agency... I could definitely be wrong, but those two noted offers seem entirely unrealistic, especially the one from Sacramento that includes Tyrese Haliburton.
Also, I would hope Minnesota isn't throwing any more offers their way. The vision of him with the Wolves just doesn't make much sense to me at this time. They'd be better off using those assets and salary-matching contracts to pursue an upgrade on the wing.
Maybe I'm missing something but these offers don't seem any better than what was reported was offered this summer.
I wonder what Ben Simmons likes watching on TV. Maybe he is learning to play golf or going bowling. Maybe he will forgo playing actual basketball and break into esports.
Respectfully, I think you might be missing a lot. For reference, the Kings were reportedly offering Buddy Hield, Marvin Bagley, and at least one first-round pick -- with a strong stipulation that De'Aaron Fox and Tyrese Haliburton were off the table -- before the season began.
Fast forward a couple months and now Sacramento is willing to deal Hield, Haliburton, Harrison Barnes, and two first-round picks? Granted, the Hield and Bagley offer wasn't nearly enough, but it's a far cry from this package. I don't quite buy it, but I suppose anything is possible.
It's been a long time and lots of trade scenarios but If I remember right the original reports of what the Cavs, Raptors, Kings and Pacers offered this summer Haliburton was actually included in that deal. I took a few minutes to try and look for those but I wasn't successful. Whether those deals were actually offered we don't know but I think most of us here thought they sounded pretty legit at the time.
In addition one of those first round picks the Kings are giving up they are getting back a guy that's probably worth a first round pick in Thybule.
It's a bit funny how players values can change. I remember the outcry when Barnes signed the deal he is on. I thought it was a pretty fair market offer especially since the Kings aren't a destination for the bigger impact FAs and now they are probably looking at getting 2 first round picks of value for him. He has increased his value around the league playing...for the Kings. That's kinda impressive. So now Barnes and Harris are somewhat equal as players and it could be argued now that Barnes is the better player. I just looked up their contracts and had forgotten that Barnes is only getting paid 18 million next season. That's almost 20 million less than Harris. That was something I missed. I still don't think that's gonna be enough for the Sixers but I see it having more value than I saw before. I think the Kings would need to add another asset (or take Thyble out of the deal*) to make this happen. Honestly I don't even know if the Kings should ne making this deal for Simmons at this point. Where is that franchise going? Would they become the worst 3 point shooting team in the last 20 years? Would anyone care?
* To be clear I agree with what Lip said that Thyble shouldn't be a dealbreaker but this is NOT the deal the Sixers we're looking to make. They need as much as they can get to make them want to do the deal. It sounds like they are willing to pivot a bit with trying to move Harris but they are still going to try and get as many assets as they can. They have not dealt Simmons so at this point unless there is something I don't know (certainly possible since I haven't kept up on these things). I could see them not blink and keep rolling since sometimes the offseason with draft picks etc could be a better time to do a deal. Trade deadlines usually are a great time to deal a worthwhile player though. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.
Regardless for the Wolves I don't see Simmons landing here. I could see maybe the Wolves end up being a part of a deal and another replayed landing here or maybe making a deal that is involved with the fallout from this deal. Adding another really solid rotation guy could be a really nice move.
