Simmons has his flaws, but he truly is an impactful player on both ends of the court. And even better than that, he fits what the Wolves' current roster has in place. Once you start breaking up that nucleus, trading for Simmons doesn't appeal as much, in my opinion.
Yeah I don't like the idea of Ben being the Primary Ball handler. Would like him in that role in times. I do think adding a complimentary piece to Simmons, KAT and Ant may be an easier task then adding a complimentary piece of Simmons caliber to DLO, KAT and Ant. But yeah you would be basically looking to add a DLo type player to the threesome if the trade was straight up.
The rub here though is this isn't the first time Ben Simmons has acted this way. They guy has a history of being like this. He could be traded and turn into a model citizen. These athletes are pampered way too damn much. For the peanuts we get to work for I have to deal with shit all the time. Like was said before, criticism and hurt feelings are part of the job. If your making 36 million you suck it the hell up.
It could turn out fine with a deal for Simmons, but his history certainly doesn't look good. His behavior definitely worries me.

His behavior the last few hours doesn't bother me much at all because it's likely a means to an end but I agree that other Simmons behavior in the past worries me somewhat.
People that get paid million of dollars because they entertain millions do have to put up with some things I don't have to. They basically give up some of their lives to have that. What is that worth? Idk but that's part of why I don't mind to some extent they get their money and they do generate a bunch of cash. In some cases some people that do have a lot of money do some good things with it.
Athletes sign that contract and they are obligated but keep in mind Simmons was going to get traded last year for James Harden. Teams can trade most guys whenever they want to. Do some of the top players have more power now? Sure but the idea that they should just stay in a situation that isn't very good for them because they are obligated by a contract when a team can trade them whenever it works for them means it's not exactly fair obligation is it? I think it seems very clear Philly would trade Ben Simmons in a heartbeat if the right offer comes along. So Ben Simmons is supposed to just be a great guy work his butt off for a team that's basically looking to trade him? Players have a lot of power to force their way to another team but teams trade players like assets all the time. To be fair some of that is simply about the salary cap and teams have to make some moves simply because of that.
FNG wrote:Cam, I agree that Simmons has largely behaved quite well throughout this ordeal, and I'm certainly not a fan of 76er management. It's just that his behavior this week has disappointed me, and makes me reassess how much I would give up to bring him in. The sullen face, the cell phone in the pocket during practice, the refusing to huddle up with teammates, and finally the refusal to participate in a drill all seemed very juvenile to me. Let's just say it's not the way I would have behaved in the same situation. I have no problem with his requesting a trade. But he signed a contract, and that contract requires him to play and for Philly to pay him something like $30 million. There's nothing in the contract that says the 76ers can't hurt his feelings. And they have no obligation to trade him if they can't get value in return (and isn't that showing him the respect he craves, saying he is worth a Lilliard in return?), or to pay him if he refuses to participate.
So do I still want Ben? Sure...for the right price. I just don't respect him as much today as I did a month ago. His petulant behavior this week reminds me of why I sometimes am disenchanted with today's NBA player.
You know what the most telling thing I got from all the drama this week...?
He even ignored the team security guard when greeted with a "hello" according to Shams.
It makes me think of an offhand story about Kemba Walker. Say what you want about him as a player (especially with his balky knees), but I believe it was Kevin O'Connor... and it was something like he was walking down the hallway of a hotel and Walker was in a discussion with somebody... but stopped to move his luggage and apologize to O'Connor for having it in the way.
It's such a small, silly thing. It's something that 99% of humans would do... But it's kinda telling that it's all it takes for me to like a modern NBA player slightly more than somebody else.
I hadn't heard about the security guard story...speaks volumes in my book. Thinking you have more value as a person than a security guard mostly because God blessed you with athleticism and a 6-11 frame is shameful.
The 76ers beat the Pelicans by 20 on the road, and Maxey goes 20-7-5 and leads the team with a +23. And the price tag for Ben Simmons drops a little more.

I think that is great for the Sixers. The more they can win without Simmons the more they can be patient in this situation. If they start losing that is when the pressure gets really hard.

Yeah, I guess I don't know how to analyze their first game. My gut reaction was Philly playing well without him lowers his value. But I see your point...the longer they play well without him, the easier it is for Morey to sit tight. It's complicated, but I guess your take makes more sense than mine.

I see your logic also. I think at the moment Philly fans have all there anger at Ben Simmons. If they start to lose that anger will slowly go to Morey on why is Simmons not gone yet.
Will be interesting. Simmons is an All NBA player with a massive flaw. I will be very curious to see what he goes for

Agree, it doesn't bother me at all either. Phili threw him under the bus last year. I'm usually not a fan of guys doing this, but phili has it coming. Morey, rivers and Embiid deserve to deal with this now. He'll get traded somewhere, and when he does, I hope phili sucks
I agree with both of you on this. I have a hard time getting down on Simmons for his recent behavior after the way his head coach and two player publicly through him under the bus as the scapegoat for getting bounced from the playoffs. Then the phony stunts to make it look like they wanted him back and Doc apparently screaming at him at a meeting that was purportedly intended to lure Ben back.

It definitely bothers me. All of it does. He's soft. Not wired like Jordan, Colby and other greats that get paid that kind of money and win. All the talent in the world, but I don't like enough of what he has between the ears to sell the farm for him.
