Cam, question for you. Would you trade DLO for Simmons? Straight swap, maybe a 2nd rounder going their way or heavily protected 1st.
Good question, Kiwi. I've maintained from the start that I wouldn't break up the Karl-Anthony Towns, D'Angelo Russell, and Anthony Edwards trio to bring Ben Simmons to the team. I only had interest in adding him to create a big-four, so to speak.
It's been a couple months now, and I haven't changed my stance on that. If anything, I've dug myself in even deeper. Simply, I wouldn't trade D-Lo for Simmons right now. I also wouldn't continue to pursue Simmons. Much of what I wanted from Simmons as Minnesota's four is being contributed by Jarred Vanderbilt for just over four-million a year. Adding Simmons at this point lessens Vanderbilt's role/production without providing much else besides the obvious increase in ball-handling. And that's without factoring in the cost to acquire him.
The juice just isn't worth the squeeze to me anymore. This team is legitimately good as constructed. I would focus on tinkering with the supporting pieces before altering the core of the team. Let's see how this team operates with another quality wing, for instance.
Cam - You have been consistent from the start on your view of Simmons, how he'd fit here and what you'd be willing to give up to get him. I've had a different view and would have loved to deal DLO and a future 2nd round pick for Simmons. But I'm not sure I'd do that deal now. I honestly don't think we need to change up our core. If we can't make the playoffs this season and become a contender in a year or two with KAT, Ant and DLO, then I don't see us as a contender with KAT, Ant and Simmons. Based on what we've seen this season, I think it's clear that this team's problem is its bench. Our top three bench players --Beasley, McDaniels and Naz Reid -- aren't getting it done. I wouldn't make a panic deal this season. But if we can strengthen the bench significantly by dealing Naz Reid and Prince I'd do it. Naz Reid has value around the League as a player while Prince should have value as an expiring contract. I'd also dangle Beasley who has value as a player.
At this point the Sixers have waited this long (looks like they were right about Maxey) they aren't going to all of the sudden be like...yeah we are gonna take this half decent offer...whether that's from the Wolves or some other team.
Cam is right Vanderbilt's emergence makes adding Simmons less worthwhile. I haven't watched enough to know how good he is actually playing but if you get the sole what versatile do shit stuff of Vanderbilt but don't need him to have the ball in his hands like Simmons would to get the most out of him then that's great.
The only thing I'm actually curious about the Ben Simmons situation is...will he even get traded this season? I didn't follow the league for quite a few weeks but has something changed significantly to get what the Sixers want? Lilliard is hurt so that's not an option. I thought this would be resolved by now but I was wrong. I think the Sixers at the very least deserve credit for still having a pretty good team and making a couple small moves to make it happen. Georges Niang is a guy I always cheer for as he went to Iowa State but he is putting up another pretty solid season and costs very little. He would look good on the Wolves right?
The Pistons reportedly made a trade offer of Jerami Grant, Saddiq Bey, Kelly Olynyk and a first-round pick to the Sixers for Ben Simmons and the Sixers turned it down. Assuming this isn't just posturing from Philadelphia's side, I think this is the strongest trade offer made for Simmons to this point.
If Daryl Morey doesn't end up with Damian Lillard or Bradley Beal after all of the shenanigans...

And rumour has it now Sacramento is offering Haliburton, Barnes, Hield and 2 future 1st, while also taking back Tobias Harris and his ghastly contract. Apparently Morey declined. That seems like a pretty good haul for a disgruntled player wanting out. Not to mention gives 76ers a pretty good return to help Embiid. What is Morey doing?

Don't know. But considering that one is even better than the Pistons one... and we still have time until the deadline...

Keith Pompey, a beat reporter for the Sixers, reported that the Kings offered Buddy Hield, Tyrese Haliburton, Harrison Barnes, and two first-round picks for Ben Simmons, Matisse Thybulle, and Tobias Harris.
If that's true, that's a huge offer from Sacramento. My gut feeling, however, is that this offer never came from the Kings, but rather it was Philadelphia's asking price and/or was leaked through Pompey to try and drive some better trade offers from other interested teams. I just can't imagine Sacramento actually giving up that much -- especially Haliburton, who is someone they've been against moving from the beginning.

The Sixers having to give up Matisse Thybulle in this trade seems kinda laughable to me. The Sixers didn't wait around for months to give up a young player to get the package quoted here.
My personal opinion...that Detroit offer is crap. Sure it has value but the Sixers aren't settling for some role players in return for Simmons.
If these are the offers the Sixers are gonna get from teams Simmons might not get dealt this season.

I like Thybulle, but I'm not sure giving him up would as part of the rumored deal would be laughable. To the contrary, I think it would be ridiculous is giving up Thybulle was the reason Morey turned down the deal (assuming he really turned it down). Thybulle is a good defender, but he provides almost nothing on the offensive end, averaging 5.8 points per game, shooting 28% from behind the arc and 69% from the line while almost never getting to the line. Buddy Hield would be a huge upgrade over Thybulle - much better scorer and three-shooter. Barnes would contribute at least as much as Harris on a much more team-friendly contract. Haliburton would be a big bonus as a far more talented young player than Thybulle. Haliburton is averaging over 40% from behind the arc. He distributes, rebounds and plays defense. In addition to all that, the rumored deal would send to future first-round picks to the Sixers.
To the surprise of many, including me, the Sixers are in the mix for a top four finish in the East without Simmons. Embiid is so good, Curry's playing really well and Maxey has been a big surprise. Adding Hield, Barnes and Haliburton in exchange for Thybulle and Harris would clearly make the Sixers significantly better and deeper. It would give them a good shot at coming out on top in the East.
Im surprised it took this long to get to real offers for Simmons. I guess our hope of Beasley, Prince and some picks is no longer getting thrown out there?
