Meanwhile Wiggins is doing Wiggins things. He has a career low FT rate and taking the fewest shots at the rim in his career. Can you imagine what people would be saying if the Wolves were paying Wiggins and Kelly Oubre around 100 million when you include possible Lux tax? Lol GS Has a very valuable pick for the Wiggins trade but they gave up a decent amount of assets to be able to pay Oubre to be a decent starter.
I think Rosas is probably safe for now but it would be nice for him to have someone else on the roster or the new coach make him look smarter. He has been a mixed bag. If Finch turns out to be someone that helps the roster instead of holding them back that's a pretty big deal.
Like I said before when everyone was on the fire Ryan train, a new coach really won't make much of a difference. The players themselves simply are young, not currently good, need to improve and get better.
Is it Ryans fault Ant shoots the ball poorly? Not really, that's simply Ant's lack of shooting skill currently and he may never become a good shooter no matter who coaches. I think it's at least 90% on the player to become who they will become.
Do you credit whoever coached Jordan early on for making him who he became? Jordan was going to become the GOAT no matter who was his coach. They certainly wouldn't have been as dominant as a team had they not had Pippen or added Rodman later. But then you again have to credit those guys for being who they were.
Honestly this post makes it sound like you think coaching doesn't matter. Glen should have been saving money the last 20+ years on just hiring whoever.
It does but the difference between a bad NBA coach and a good one is probably 5 wins a season imo.
We've seen a dozen or so coaches come through here and we've consistently been terrible barring a magical 2004 season.
You can't tell me that coaching matters that much. You put Ryan as the Lakers coach and they still win the chip last year and have about the same record this season.
Firing coaches simply appeases the fans most of the time. Sure there are probably times coaches do deserve to get fired as well when they lose the team.
I mean the last 13 games under Ryan the Wolves were close to winning every single game, each game decided by 8 or less. Now under Finch we are getting blown out.
To be fair it should take some time, but I'm not hopeful just because a new coach is here.
I generally agree except occasionally you will see a new coach come in and completely change the effort and attitude around defense. That is the one side that a coach can impact without relying solely on the innate talent of the players. Thibs has done it in New York this season.
If Ryan sucks as a coach the Lakers would not certainly win a championship. Coaching matters in those high level settings.
2015/16 Sam Mitchell won 29 games in his only season and was fired. He played primarily: Wiggins, Towns, Rubio, LaVine, Dieng, Bazz and Bjelica. The next year, Thibs took over and played pretty much the exact same guys. He won 31 games. A whopping two game difference.

If we could only get back to the Mitchell/Thibs era of winning 30ish games. That team never fit our window for success unfortunately.

Does he suck as a coach? The team was more successful under him (thus far). Does every Wolves coach suck in history? Because if coaching really matters we just happen to always have the bad ones! lol

Carlos!
Hey Q. Yep. I've barely been following this anymore. I had a brief moment of excitement when the new coach was hired, but looking at this roster I don't think he has much of a chance to do anything better without big changes. I'm not sure Red Auerbach could come in and make a difference with the current guys. It's painful to watch.

Don't blame ya. It's been tough sleddin' for a long time. There were some brief bouts of optimism after lucking into the #1 pick this past offseason, but of course it appears we picked the wrong guy (at least for now) and nothing seems to make things better - KAT coming back, new coach, etc.
I'm of the belief that the stink that hangs over this franchise is beyond any coach. It would require a singular talent to come in and completely change the outlook or a change in ownership and total overhaul of its operations from top to bottom.

If 20 teams make the playoffs next year and the Wolves still don't make the playoffs and/or show marked improvement then, I could see them cutting bait after next season.
Even though Russell didn't impress in Golden State, he was coming off a playoff and all-star appearance just before that in Brooklyn. Compare that with Wiggins being considered the worst contract in basketball by many, and that's why they had to give up more than a 1 for 1. Retrospect though, probably got jobbed on that trade.

Kat record in the Rosas era: 13-37 and are 4-30 in the last 34 games.
That is nuts!!
Is there a single player that Rosas has acquired that has done anything to significantly help this team's defense? That's where Rosas has failed tremendously. This team also has below average size, length, and athleticism at most positions. We play small without the ability to take advantage the other way. Poor roster construction meets a flawed vision and style of play. There are talented pieces he's assembled, but they're not being utilized to their fullest. It's all bad.
