Ha, terrible acting by the pitcher, and the baserunner still didn't get it! The pitcher holds his glove up in the air for about 5 seconds too long before he figures out what Astudillo is doing.


I wouldn't want to be that baserunner walking back to Dougie Baseball's dugout after that blunder!

Well...Dougie Baseball was the 3rd bade coach. Which makes it all the more amusing.

I hope he can stay healthy. Injuries have killed his development. Most seem to be freak of nature types though.

I think the kids are a future all-star. He just needs to not get injured and not press. I think his struggles here are more mental than anything else. I would be curious what Jester thinks based on his and his connections.

I'm big proponet if you succeed at every level you'll exceed in the majors 90% of the time. Byron Buxton has succeeded at every level besides the majors so hopefully he's no the 10%. I would say to three factors have contributed to him not being the player we thought he would by now.

1. The injuries and there not even major injuries either so at least that's a good thing

2. They rushed him to try win a wild card race. I understood why they brought him up when they did but he was clearly not read and the organization should be drilled for this.

3. Paul Molitor i might be in the minority in this but I think Paul has screwed with Buxton psyche so much. Remember in Buxton 2nd year when Paul was batting him 3rd in the line up? then slowly dropping him down in the line up and making his confidence even more crap. They've changed his swing at least three times since he's gotten to the Majors. I just feel like the kid has been badly coach.
I once heard Pete Rose say why would you ever completely change your swing it's what got you to the majors in the first place.

Good stuff. I didn't think of the 3rd one. That is a good point. I never understood batting him 3rd at this point either.

On Buxton (I agree with a lot of what Jester outlined) I don't remember who said it somewhat recently I think it was Falvey or Lavine that said Buxton has gotten to the place where he has taken over his approach at the plate and saying this is what's i do well and letting my natural talent take over. They weren't suggesting he isn't listening to anyone else but that he has arrived at a spot where he is doing his thing.

There is quite a bit to unpack there but I do also wonder if at times Buxton was too willing to listen to other people that were trying to help. I've certainly been there. He seems like a good kid maybe he was people pleasing too much. TOTAL SPECULATION.

Personally I think both Buxton and Sano are going to be valueable players if they can stay healthy. For Sano he has a direct way of helping that situation by keeping his body right. For Buxton he may need to find a way to pull up when tracking some fly balls in CF but that's a tough thing.
