What do you think of McDaniels so far?
I think he's had impressive moments for sure, and his court awareness is much better than I anticipated it would be this early. You can definitely see the natural ability and what he could blossom into if all things go right. The combination of attractive features are there at least.
But I also still see a very inefficient offensive player with a tendency to avoid contact, and frankly, I don't necessarily blame him right now. The guy is listed at 185-pounds. Let me say that again. 185-pounds! For comparison, Josh Okogie is 213 and Anthony Edwards is 225. And those are our backcourt players. McDaniels is seriously missing that grown man weight and strength that I think is required in order to be an impact player in an NBA frontcourt. Hopefully, it comes with time.
Those numbers are great, small sample or not. Let's hope they continue as he gets more burn vs. better units. And as Cam noted, the size and the offensive game need to be works in development, too.
Amid all the frustration with the Wolves... there are times when the Wolves are throwing out some legit athletes (long-limbed leapers) out there if nothing else. Even the somewhat decent teams of Adelman couldn't do that. Love, Rubio, Martin, Pek, Barea...
Yeah, we might have something brewing that leads to a pretty damn good second unit later this season and into next season.
Hopefully Rubio has taken some responsibility for his horrific play and may be allows himself to settle into a pure backup role for a while. I don't know how he could be upset at this given his play and now J-Mac is pushing him for minutes. But the issue is J-Mac only has so many games he can play, so Rubio needs to be in the mix.
But if Rubio can somehow hit the re-set button and get himself on track with the second unit once DLO and KAT are back, I'm hoping for some strength there. We'll see...
