If you can't let go of Butler mentally, can you really be trusted to engage fully, creatively and unreservedly in trying to move him?

Thibs is doing everything possible to save his own ass. He knows without Butler he isn't a good enough coach to get this team to 40 wins let alone the playoffs. Taylor needs to grow a pair and show him the door. Let Layden organise a Butler trade with Glen's supervision. Let Ryan coach for the season. I know he's young but I think this team will play hard under him.

Hmm.. I had a completely different take on this. I saw it as Thibs/Layden wanting to extend the timeframe they have to secure the best trade possible. I cannot believe Thibs thinks he can still retain Jimmy for this season.

But go on and keep viewing every bit of news on Thibs in the most negative light possible... ;-)

It is getting a little obsessive at this most.

C'mon Tim, even you have to admit that Thibs has become a major problem. As someone who is both POBO and head coach, the buck stops with him. And all we keep hearing about is lack of communication, mis-alignment of objectives, and inner strife between players and front office people between the business and operations side.

It's like the classic case of assuming a great sales specialist can become a great sales manager. It's two different sets of skills. Some can make the jump and others can't. Thibs clearly has major issues with organizational and people management.

OK. Go on and keep straining to view everything Thibs does in a positive light. :) Seriously, how does getting Butler to come join the team for preseason extend the timeframe? Answer: it doesn't. Are other teams going to suddenly fear Butler is staying and offer more? That's silly. The whole basketball world knows Butler will be traded and they'd laugh at any lame attempt to suggest otherwise. The key to getting value for Butler is to gin up as much interest as possible and create a sense of urgency so other teams compete with one another for Butler and don't feel they can sit back and wait. The only thing the Wolves get from having Butler here with the team is confusion, distraction and an extremely awkward atmosphere in the lockerroom.

They are offering capspace in return for picks.

If the Nets are offering D'Angelo Russell as part of the package for Butler, I sure hope the Wolves say no. Even if he's matured beyond the lockerroom cancer he used to be, the arguments against trading for him are compelling:

1. Only 1 year left on his rookie deal, so he could turn out to be nothing more than a 1-year rental

2. He can't stay healthy. Last season he played in only 48 games while the previous season he played in only 63 games. That's a HUGE red flag for a guy in his early 20s.

3. He's not a good player. Perhaps I should have put this at the top. This guy just isn't good. He's a poor shooter as evidenced by his 41.4% FG and 32.4% 3-point shooting last season. He's not much of a playmaker, garnering 5.2 assists last season. And he's a poor defender.

If this report helps generate a better offer from some other team then fine. But because of who is running our front office, I'm concerned that a deal like this could happen.

Wait. The Kings may be involved? YES!

Every NBA team should be contacting that organization first when trying to dupe a team in a trade.

Yeah I agree. I sure hope we stay away from Russell. The thought of Russell or Waiters makes me cringe.
