I agree completely. But that's the sort of deal I fear Thibodeau would make, thinking that Gordon and Tucker would give him the best chance of making the playoffs this season. Unfortunately, it would be a terrible return for the long-term interest of this franchise.

If we wait until December we might be able to squeeze Melo away from them.

I'm not thrilled with any of the options at this point. Part of me would just as soon want them to hold off and eventually just trade Butler and Gorgui for expirings. That way next year you have a new gm with a lottery pick 10-14 likely, and some cap space to build a team around Towns the way they saw fit. I don't think there's any chance that would be the outcome, but at this point I don't really give a shit now that Jimmy sabotaged this season. What are we really going to salvage with Josh Richardson, Gary Harris or Lavert?

At this point the only deal I would get excited about is if Thibs flipped the script and tried to pry Walker from Charlotte or Wall from Washington. Just something more unconventional that had a threesome in mind for a long term that matched Wiggins and KAT more naturally than Jimmy.

I don't have confidence that top free agents will sign here next summer to play with KAT and Towns after another lottery season regardless of how much cap space we have. That's especially true if we're going to keep Thibodeau around. If the Wolves are ever going to become a championship contender, they'll have to do it organically through the draft and the development of young players acquired through trades early in their career before they fully develop. That's the only model of success that works for mid-market teams like the Wolves. I'd feel better if we could count on Wiggins to become a perennial allstar, but so far that's a long shot. KAT as our sole allstar isn't enough. We need to hit on another pick or young guy, whether it's Okogie, future draft picks or a younger player acquired in return for Butler.

We need to do what Indiana did and get an Oladipo and Sabonis in return for Butler. I don't see getting Wall for Butler, but how about Bradley Beal? That would be something to get excited about. Otto Porter would be the next best thing. Are those deals unrealistic? Maybe, but those are the first deals we should be pursuing for Butler. At the end of the day, Richardson and Adebayo would be a great deal for the Wolves and I continue to believe the Heat would do that.

I think our free agent prospects lie 100% in KATs performance this year. If he's an MVP candidate players will want to come here. There is clearly a generational shift happening in the NBA which is probably part of Jimmy having so much disdain for KAT. If KAT steps up he's part of that new generation of players that the young guys will want to rally around. If he's not then we're screwed anyway and Richardson and Bam do nothing to change that. I'd still rather see a real run at Kemba than fill out the roster with lunch bucket players.

KAT and Wiggins have to change a lot of people's perceptions of them before we can ever expect anyone to join this team because of them. At this rate, Jimmy has been very successful and making sure they have sketchy reputations as basketball players.

I agree Towns is the key. Personally I think the guy we should probably reasonably becomes our Olidipo is...Wiggins. Yeah he probably won't but expecting someone we get to be that guy might not be realistic either. One concern I have about this roster until someone emerges is that without Butler and the promise of Lavine...we don't have a guy that you just give them the ball and they can get a bucket or create for others. Wiggins might be able to get a bucket but that's not a sure thing now and he just doesn't have the ball handling ability to just make something happen. If Tyus continues to improve and becomes the starting PG he might make the offense run great but he probably won't be able to just get a look. I think the hope would be Towns becomes such a damn good scorer he can just beat people from pretty much anywhere at any time in about anyway you can imagine. Even with his offensive talent that's a lot to ask as a big guy. I agree that the Wolves likely need to develop at least one more good player from within.
