Would hope we could get more then that. Harris/One of their rookies and a unprotected pick

We got Butler on two years for who everyone here says are busts in LaVine and Dunn + a pick swap. Which delusion are you a part of?

Couple things, if they want Butler they are going need to add a player to match salary (Harris), we are going to need a young player back so one of their rookies, and hopefully you can get a pick back.

Lavine and Dunn where not busts last year, Now Lavine comes back and does really bad and did not get better on defense or anywhere noticable on offense. Dunn started and was a bottom 3 starting PG in the league and is now fighting with his 2nd head coach. Their value was higher has dropped since last year. If the Clippers add Butler they have a good shot at the playoffs so it would be a non lotto pick.

They would also be in the drivers seat to get Butler and Irving.

The butler/Irving thing is irrelevant to a man making good business decisions. The only team I see being able to leverage that against is the Celtics. Give me brown straight up or Terry and smart or the Brooklyn pick.

We will obviously need a salary match but id be very surprised if we get a both a young player and a pick.

Funny, everyone who supported the Butler trade because we jettisoned young talent wants young talent back..

Ha, I have to agree! The discussion in this thread (on both sides of the argument) is some of the best I've seen in a long time.

Nobody who supported the Butler trade liked it because we got rid of young talent. We liked it because it was worth giving up a flawed and injured young player who was about to demand an overpay, a disappointing rookie, and a first-round pick swap for a two-way All Star, consensus top-15 player in the league. That's also why the vast majority of basketball commentators said Wolves got a steal in that deal.

Nobody likes shipping out young talent. There is a legitimate and long-running debate on this board, and throughout the basketball world, really, over how to build and how much to prioritize youth vs. veterans, etc. Don't mischaracterize a perspective you disagree with in that debate. Just stand on the strength of your own arguments.

Because we are at a different spot even we were a year and a half ago. We won't be able to get a player that is known to be as good as butler. If we could I would do that trade in 2 seconds.

So we need to get some assets from Jimmy. Hopefully the pick or one of the rookies show enough promise to get to the same level as Jimmy or at least become an asset to trade.

If you wait to see what you have with young talent you're more likely to find the answer is "not much" than game changers.

Teams don't trade top 20 talents for proven nobody's. It's a gamble for all involved or the trade would never happen.

There is a rumor that Jimmy wanted a renegotiation on his contract in the off season that would have likely required Wiggins being traded. Obviously Thibs thought he knew better, and ignored Butler's wishes. Right or wrong, he should have had a plan to straighten things out well before the start of training camp.

http://www.sportingnews.com/us/nba/news/jimmy-butler-trade-rumors-timberwolves-news-contract-knicks-clippers-nets-lakers/mi5eu2s5b7n71ui643ikr5nes

I think it was ridiculous on Jimmy's part, but it was also a tip off of what was about to happen. It sounds as if the whole locker room was a mess at the end of the season chemistry wise. Did Thibs think it would just go away? Wasn't that the problem in Chicago? How do you not address a problem between your top three guys?

The plus side is that Taylor may now have a way out by simply insisting that we don't take back vet role players, and look for younger guys, and picks. Sounds like Thibs may quit if that is the mandate. The Butler move didn't workout, but let's not compound the problem by chasing vets that will likely lock us into mediocrity. It is highly unlikely that we can get the caliber of player similar to Butler.

FUTURE - While I agree with you that we made the Butler move too soon, you have to realize that opportunities don't always present themselves at the most opportune time. Also, it might be wise to be a little more thoughtful in some of yoiur posts. There is no reason to insult people that don't necessarily agree with your line of thinking.

It would be better if it wasn't filled with rationalizing fans. Oh, well this makes sense because of...

You draft the right people and add free agents when you know what you have and have the space. You can name 20 trades of an established star that didn't work out for every one that did.

I'm guessing the rockets are happy with Paul, Cavs won a championship with love, KG and ray allen say hi, Celtics just be happy with kyrie. Don't think the Raptors are mad about kawhi. Warriors with Iggy.

I'm not insulting any person directly. If what I said resonates with someone personally, then so be it

Opportunities always will be present at the right time. Its just making the decision at the right time that matters. Taking a chance is a waste if it doesn't work out when we are talking about someone who has limited continuity in this aspect. Life proves such. I can take chances in my personal life and learn from it. I can't take chances at my company for a loss and expect I'll get to learn from it.

You just manipulated words to say exactly what I said.

Happy to get rid of young talent for an established star. Right?

That's all good and well when you actually have a fucking competitive team with a proven star or two.

You don't jettison young potential when you're picking #7. And just picked #4. And before that, #1.
