Here's an excerpt from Woj's latest report:

Adrian Wojnarowski: "I know Minnesota was telling teams last week, 'We've got an offer we really, really like. We've got an offer we'd do.' Nobody believed them. Like, nobody believed them. And part of the problem for that Minnesota front office is, one GM/executive said to me, 'In normal circumstances, they're the most difficult in the league to deal with. In normal circumstances, they're usually very unrealistic about what they can get back from you in a deal. Under these circumstances? They're exponentially more difficult to deal with.' And I wonder how that cat-and-mouse game plays out when you're trying to create a marketplace for a player." -

The last sentence is the key. Driving a hard bargain is one thing. But there's a fine line between being a tough negotiator to get the best value possible versus being so obstinate and unrealistic that you chill the kind of dialogue and interest you need to eventually get a good deal. That phrase, "generate a marketplace for a player" was a point I made in a much earlier post regarding Butler. The Wolves need to generate interest, create some momentum and ignite a feeling around the League that Butler's a hot commodity that a lot of teams are pursuing. The more GMs think they can actually get him and that other teams are pursuing him with a realistic change of getting him, the more momentum develops as GMs begin to envision getting Butler and become more and more committed to getting him. If, however, word gets around that the Wolves aren't particularly interested in trading Butler and aren't being remotely realistic, then a lot of GMs likely won't bother pursuing very aggressively if at all. And as GMs realize other GMs aren't bothering or have given up pursuing Jimmy further depresses Butler's trade value.

Basically Woj and Marks and Jon K in there relative podcasts the last few hours have said everything is a bit cooled off right now because everyone is taking a bit of a deep breath on the whole situation. Marks said in this pod that waiting longer isn't a bad thing. He said he could see this thing going into the season a little bit and the return the Wolves get could actually go up. I won't be shocked if this process takes at least another week of not 2 more to play out and or won't be a horrifically bad thing I'd it does.

Many of you are way too impatient. While it would have been nice to have this trade happen in 7 days, it just wasn't going to happen. I think anything the Wolves accepted over the past week would have been a mistake. Many of you want a trade for trade sake. Butler, regardless of attitude and situation, is a top 15 player that will have a market. But the reality is this is going to take some time. For many, you just need to trust the process here. I firmly believe we will get a solid return for Butler in the end....it just may take some time.

We will not get an unprotected pick from a team unless it's houston. I know the lottery system is about to change but team just don't include unprotected picks, unless you're SacTown or the Nets.

Is there anyway possible we could unload Wiggy to SacTown??

They aren't trading Wiggins.

I'm convinced Thibs won't trade Butler at all.

Glen's gonna have to clean house and do it himself.

I think Butler will be traded before the regular season starts. I think it will be the Heat or Sixers - possibly the Clippers.

If it's the Sixers, I expect Covington (not Saric) to be part of the package. I'm guessing Covington and Muscala. The question is what picks we get as part of the deal. My minimum expectation would be getting the better of the Sixers' own pick or the Nuggets top 12-protected first round pick for 2019 AND the better of the Kings and Bulls 2019 second round picks.

If it's the Heat, I expect J. Richardson or Waiters to be part of the package along with Winslow and either Adebayo or Miami's 2019 first round pick top 10 protected. The package I'd want would be Richardson, Winslow and Adebayo. Another possibility would be Gorgui and Butler for Whiteside, Richardson (or Waiters) and Miami's 2019 pick top 10 protected.

There's still an outside chance Butler gets dealt to the Clippers for T. Harris and G-Alexander, but I wouldn't bet on it. Otherwise, I don't see any other deals materializing. Taylor won't let it drag into the season.

There you have it; my official prediction. I'm not crazy about any of those three deals, but I don't think the Wolves can do any better.

I think Britt has a worthwhile take here.

https://twitter.com/brittrobson/status/1046570789477261312?s=21

-I've been hard on Thibs but truth is that the organization has absorbed the psychological blow+now have the leverage. If Butler is unhappy he can sit. His value won't go down in the next 6 weeks. Thibs called him "worth everything" frequently last season. No shock price is high-

So how I see it the Wolves have gotten some offers and now if they haven't liked what they have heard they wait for something better. The reports of wondering if Thibs is gonna actually trade Butler or not...probably some of that is just trying to up the pressure on Thibs and Glen etc. Does Jimmy want to play right away? Yep I'm sure he does. That puts more pressure on him and his side to go out and find a deal and pressure other teams to get something done. Listening to Thibs and the players on the court it seems like the team has moved on. The guys a trade will likely impact the most in terms of minutes are Taj and Gibson who are vets that know Butler so they are gonna be alright. Thibs seems pretty chill and Taj last night said as much. Taj said Thibs was joking with refs last night and after the game Thibs was jokingly needling Nick Freidell the former Bulls reporter that now works for ESPN. For a guy that's supposed to be in the most tumultuous situation of his career he seems to be handling it pretty well handling it well being in better shape while fielding jokes about his weight loss etc.

I ment to put that in the game thread but I did notice thibs sat for a huge portion of the game. He still had his twitch but he was sitting and I didn't hear him tell ice or call out a play all night. Is that a thing to come or was it a preseason game so he was more calm
