We will see but this seems like relatively good news. I can live with him being out this year but having him healthy for next season is a relief.

"Minneapolis/St. Paul - The Minnesota Timberwolves announced that an MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) taken this afternoon on Wolves forward Jimmy Butler's right knee revealed a meniscal injury. The evaluation and MRI was conducted by Team Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Diane Dahm at Mayo Clinic. Further updates as to Butler's progress will be issued when more information becomes available."

Jon K says meniscus injury, not sure of treatment route yet and by default time of return/recovery.

Yeah it sounds like whatever the treatment route will determine the recovery time. I can't see that being less that 6 weeks though.

Wolves PR: "An MRI taken this afternoon on #Twolves forward Jimmy Butler's right knee revealed a meniscal injury. Further updates as to Butler's progress will be issued when more information becomes available."

This is wonderful news. Meniscus injuries usually take about one to three months to recover. Even if it takes Butler longer, he should still be good to go for the start of the 2018-19 season, which is the most important thing basketball-wise.

I've torn the meniscus in my right knee three times. First time the repaired it and I was on crutches for 6 weeks followed by PT. The next two times they removed the tear arthroscopically And recovery was about two weeks. For his long term sake I hope it is repairable even though that means he and the wolves are most likely are out of the playoffs yet again. With 10th place only 4 games behind I don't see how Wiggins and company keeps us out of the lottery but how great would it be if this is what it takes for him to be the player some on this board believe he can be!

Good to hear Jimmy will probably be back by start of next season and not worse. Hope we can still sneak into the playoffs somehow.

I hope he repairs it. If he goes with the quick fix, I wouldn't resign him if I were Thibs.

That is good news it's not a year (surgery/rehab) type of deal, it certainly looked bad. Get healthy before next season. It's not like the Wolves were going to win it all this season.

I hope we can still make it but someone has to step up and the team defense has to be not horrific. A couple teams probably need to falter a bit as well which is possible.

Having said that if basically the worst case scenario is us missing the playoffs having 2 first round picks this year and having Butler healthy for next season...i'll Take it. Having 2 first rounders give some options.

You can trade 1 for a vet player with one and still pick a young player.

Trade both to move up for a better player.

Take 2 young players with the picks.

Bonus: The Wolves 2nd round pick this year would be higher also which could be another trade asset or a way to get a young player if we deal one of the other picks. I do t love talking about the draft at this point but it's a legit optimistic thing and if we pick this year we need to make something of it because next year we won't have a 1st rounder.
