He's not even an option in my mind.

Lou has been great this year, but i don't think hes someone we really need. A big wing is my priority and then a tough physical c off the bench.

With kat, wiggs, and jimmy on max deals, id like to have the cheap controlled contracts of the first rounders.

All other things being equal, I'd opt for Bazemore over Lou even though I like both. Lou seems a bit duplicative of Crawford except that Lou is a better three-point shooter. Bazemore would give us a 2-way player with size who can play both the SG and SF positions. I think that's what we really need now. However, Bazemore's contract is more expensive than what Lou has or would likely get. And I think Lou is clearly the better scorer and better three-point shooter. Given our need to improve from behind the arc, I see the case for Lou.

The question is what would we have to give up to get either one. I'm not interested in giving up our OKC pick for either one. I'd rather not trade Gorgui either because we'd be really think up front if Taj or Towns went down for any length of time. But I don't see us getting either one without giving up Gorgui or our OKC pick -- maybe both.

Ultimately, I don't see the Wolves making any major deals involving Gorgui or our pick by the deadline. Instead, I can see us moving Bazz for someline like Luke Babbit. I'd like that deal, but I'm not sure the Hawks would go for it.

Bazz with his player option for next year isn't very tradebale at this point for a guy on an expiring deal. I'm interested to see that he got some run with the fully healthy team the other night.

I know Cam is aggressive and I respect his position. At this point I think I would rather sign the best player we can get to a min contract hoping for a good buyout player. Then this offseason use the Mid-level to get that shooting wing player that could really help us. Would they be as good as Bazemore? Probably not but the cost will be less (Lux tax has to be somewhat of a concern) and you still have that pick which is valuable. We might be able to get a decent vet min guy also. I think it's possible one of the SG/wing players gets left over because there are a lot of them and the mid-level will get you a pretty good player. I'm not dying to make a deal right now.

Shocking

"ESPN Sources: Minnesota's Shabazz Muhammad seeking to be traded or released ahead of Thursday's NBA deadline."

I'm not sure if he can decline his player option for next season now or not. If he wanted to I bet he would be more tradeable or just letting him go would be relatively easy. Maybe a buyout if he really wants out that bad.

Edit: Cool made a thread for this news.

That's a bit much for Lou Amundson, don't you think?

Interesting tidbit on why the Wolves should be one of 4 teams looking to buy at the trade deadline:

Minnesota Timberwolves
The Wolves have the most effective five-man unit in the league (minimum: 200 min.), beating the best Rockets lineup by four points per 100 possessions, and the Warriors' starting unit by a whopping 10 points per 100 possessions.
If only things didn't fall apart completely once any bench players besides Tyus Jones enter the court. Jamal Crawford and Gorgui Dieng are posting some of the worst on/off ratings of any players with 800-plus minutes. If the Wolves can find a way to limit their playing time, they could be a scary team come the playoffs.
Dieng's contract, running through 2020-21 for around $17 million per season, will be tough to deal, but the Wolves could dangle the 2018 first-rounder they'll receive from Oklahoma City (the Wolves' own pick is going to Atlanta).
The Grizzlies' Tyreke Evans, who's playing the best basketball of his career (real plus-minus: 3.1), should probably be the Wolves' primary target.

That's practically the argument doper and I have been making since the beginning of the season. Our starters can hang with or outplay any other starting unit in the league. It's when the bench gets sprinkled is where we have a problem. Jones and Bjelica -- when healthy -- are positives when they're on the floor, but Crawford and Dieng have just been awful. And that's on top of needing a wing defender, at least, that can spell Butler and Wiggins.

Fixing the bench should be top priority, ahead of three-point shooting, pace of play, Teague or Jones, or whatever problem viewers can come up with.

I've been a fan of Evans all the way back to pre-draft days, but I don't get why he should be top priority. He's having a stellar year and would provide a lot of what we need, but he's going to cash in big time this summer while pursuing a starting gig. He's been that good. I'd probably feel more comfortable acquiring him if he had at least another year on his deal, if only to see if his perimeter shooting is for real. That's while acknowledging the upward trend his three-ball has had the last several seasons.

Bazz and meeks both want off their teams.

Dieng and bazz to the wiz.
Mahinmi and meeks to the wolves.

Mahinmi gives us a tough presence in the paint and doesnt play soft. Meeks is a 3 pt shooter. We also get to shave a year off diengs deal.

Wiz get a younger back up and potential gortat replacement next year. As a starter, hes contract isnt a problem. I also think he'd be pretty good in pnr with wall.
