I realize teams do crazy things for shooting but his value is probably more towards the trade deadline when teams suffer injury or are in more desperation for shooting.
I am perfectly content with Martin getting a heat check off the bench each night once in the 1st half and once in the 2nd half, if he plays well ride the hot stroke otherwise back to the bench.
But to what end? I'll even take a 2nd rounder over a player that wont be here in a year or two. I guess I'm looking more long term and less at what seriously flawed old guys can give us now.. And I say that as a huge KG defender. But he holds no value other than what he can give us for 15 mins a game.
Odds are a 2nd rounder won't even be in the league in two years whereas Martin will. Would you trade Martin for LoBrow? Because that's the most likely return in terms of 2nd round quality. The Patriots trade them while they still have value doesn't work in a league in which contending teams rarely play more than 10 players.
I can't see giving Martin away like Flip gave away Corey Brewer. I think you find a team in December that was hopefully in making the playoffs and things are not going well and will make a trade that helps us. Maybe it is something with the Rockets that nets you Sam Deker and a pick. Maybe it is a trade with the Kings for a pick. I just wouldn't trade him to trade him.

Close to what he's getting now? But even one extra year would be worth it, right?
It's hard to know what type of contract Martin would get all things considered. Why did I ask this question? If all he is gonna get is a deal like he signed with us...why not keep him if he would be willing to do so? That's gonna be mid level and he is a 3 point shooter which this team needs pretty bad. At some point he might be able to play stole with players that he compliments instead of kind of a weird role he has right now with guys that he doesn't fit all that well with. Would I rather spend that money on a 3 and D type? Yeah that makes sense. Martin can still have value for this team going forward.
I see Martin's trade value somewhere around what Brewer brought back last year which wasn't actually too bad. An early 2nd rounder, a TPE plus a flyer on a young player that may have been interesting which we moved later. That's not wildly exciting but it certainly was something with some solid value.

Agree. He's been frustrating to watch so far. But he's due to get hot and then nobody will be mad anymore. He's a decent player with flaws - like most of our players. LaVine is pushing him and that's a good thing. It should all work itself out. I think it's likely he's traded as the playoff push heats up and teams are looking for an extra scorer. Flip's vision was a "blended" roster of young guys and vets. As the young guys prove themselves ready - the vets will be moved or retire.

As for Flips vision...Flip has been adamant for a couple years that he wasn't trading Martin and said a couple times on Barriero that he sees Martin as a guy that can be a nice bench scorer on the team long term. At least one of those times Flip said he discussed that with Martin at length and Martin was on board but we also know Flip is a positive guy and can sell guys on things but we don't know what Martin is thinking. We know he didn't ask out of the mess that was last year which quite frankly is still surprising. Flip isn't around anymore so who knows. Anywho I just thought I would add that.
