I'd be satisfied if Bennett + #31 could get us #32
I don't understand why people want to get rid of Bennett. I know he's been a disappointment and he's making quite a bit as the first pick but he does have talent. It's not like we need the cap space, all our young players are under contract and we're not signing any big name free agents. For the potential he does have it seems like a better option to hang onto him and hope he can develop into a serviceable player.

We have a glut of players at his position, just about every one with some type of flaw or weakness. Bennett is probably the most tradeable of the group. What we don't have is a pure point guard who can step in if Ricky misses a large chunk of the season.

That's a large no, in my opinion. Good target for us to go after, but I doubt Bennett does anything for them... except make them weep.
I actually think this might be very much realistic trade scenario for same reasons as the Calderon - Bennett swap that you suggested. Next season is the last season for Joe Johnson and Brook Lopez and Deron Williams contract has also early termination option then. Jarrett Jack contract has still two years left. So if Brooklyn wants to have as much flexibility as possible in their salary cap after 2015-16 season, they might want to dump Jack for expiring.

That's a good point Mikk. The big question is do they want to unload Jack's contract or not.
As we look at 2015 free agency, it's real important to remember what's happening to the salary cap. Currently, 2015-16 is projected to around $69 mil (81 mil tax threshold) and 2016-17 is projected to $89 mil because of the new TV deal.
Assuming we exercise on one of Hummel or Hamilton, we'd have $55 mil committed to 11 players... a draft choice, Garnett, a point guard and hopefully Bjelica. $14 mil might not be enough to sign all three, but I think we can go over the cap to get Bjelica and the draft choice (cap-ologists can help here). More important, we wouldn't get anywhere near the tax limit and with Bennett, Budinger and maybe Garnett coming off for 2016, we'd have loads of room at a time when we could use it to sign a key free agent.
As for Jack, I'd be shocked if Brooklyn would move him for Bennett's cap space... Jack is a team option for 2016, not a guaranteed contract, so they'd still have flexibility and a solid backup in the meantime for a run at making the playoffs. Meanwhile, there are several backup PG's out there who we could sign for less than his $6+ mil.
"Bjelica named the Euroleague's MVP. Timberwolves will need to hand him the full nontaxpayer's midlevel exception if they want to sign him."
I hope we don't trade him and instead sign him to play here. I like his talent a lot. Could be a very good fit with either Towns or Okafor.
I am with you. I would love to swing for the fences with a big like Upshaw. I wouldn't be heart broken with Russell though either. I wam still ready to give AB another year, but oddly wouldn't care if Payne was not back. I think Flip has to big of an ego to do that though.
