2015 free agency
Re: 2015 free agency
Hey! Adreian is busy working hard this summer to get better. Looks like he got rid of the deep knee bend before shooting, but none of his shots were the catch and shoot types in his latest workout, so hard to say...

Bennett for nearly $6M?
I don't think many teams are looking at that as a good contract... at least where they'll give up something of value and seek it out. About that promise...
Just being the #1 pick isn't enough, especially when he was considered a terrible reach the moment he was drafted. It has a shelf life, eventually. Are we there yet after two injury-plagued seasons of poor to mediocre basketball?
I'm sure some teams are at that point in their assessment of him...
[Note: I can see Bennett moving, but as a piece in a larger deal.]

"Bjelica named the Euroleague's MVP. Timberwolves will need to hand him the full nontaxpayer's midlevel exception if they want to sign him."
I hope we don't trade him and instead sign him to play here. I like his talent a lot. Could be a very good fit with either Towns or Okafor.
Hate to harp on it, but this all makes the Payne trade even worse.

What's the benefit of giving up on him now when he can be an expiring contract this year? You don't save money by cutting him and not many teams can just absorb 6 million so there isn't going to be much of a cap saving when you deal him. He's had two injury plagued years and he was a top 10 pick so as a bad team aren't we responsible for seeing what he could do with a full healthy one before we just let him go for little to nothing? We just won 16 games and we're saying a top 10 pick going into his third year isn't good enough to play for us?
We need to find long-term pieces more than worry about money right now so any deal with less than 2 years is inconsequential regardless of the cost. Why settle for just Wiggins with the Love trade if you can show some commitment and confidence in a guy like AB to get better and we could get more than 1 good piece out of the Love trade? Worst comes to worse we let him go in FA after this year, but it'd be pretty dumb for a team as bad as we are to never give a guy a real shot (i.e. more than spot minutes off the bench) only to have him go elsewhere to possibly become a rotation level player or maybe even better if the organization commits to him and has confidence in him.

Agreed. I'd rather try to deal Payne for a solid backup PG or something along those lines.
Re: 2015 free agency
The question of the PFs for this team is what it if they have any value. If Payne or Bennett had any value some of us would move them. If Bennett really has no value around the league than sure keep him and hope something happens but if someone wants him and you get anything back in some sort of package... Payne is cheaper and at least has some length to be position flecable so I guess why dump him but if you can get something back in a package you like maybe you move him also. We just don't know if or what value these guys have? What value does NB have? We don't know and we don't know how Flip values him either. The notion that the Wolves who at this point have no answer at PF and they would be willing to deal player X or Y or Z or all of them...well... lol I don't see anyway all 3 of those guys plus KG plus maybe some other dude like Hummel are on the team to start the season. That's way too many guys at one position even if KG will be playing limited minutes and games and it might take NB a while to transition. We will see what happens.

Re: 2015 free agency
I see Kg logging minutes at center and PF. I would think of him as the 7th big.
I would love to add Bjelica and Koufus. Both 26 and productive. Add in Pekovic, Dieng, AB,and Payne and we have 7. If we draft a big someone should be moved. I would move Payne.

I wouldn't give up on Payne. He's got the physical tools, we spent a 1st rounder on him (which is what I assume we would have done had LaVine not been available), and we just invested half a rookie season on him. Why not wait and see how he progresses going into next season?
It's not far-fetched to believe he could be a rotation player. Flip thought highly of him in the draft, and talent evaluation in the draft has been one of Flip's strong suits. I want to see how Payne develops.

Tim - I am just so frustrated with that trade that I would rather move on. I hope you are right that he develops.

I do seem to be one of the few that see something in Payne that is worth cultivating (more than Bennett, IMO)...
