Revisiting the Kevin Love trade one year later
Re: Revisiting the Kevin Love trade one year later
Khans I don't think you're considering LSTs point that LeBron gets a team to the finals almost by himself by default. There is a great chance he'd win one next yea r just with a healthy kyrie and another year of experience for those role players. If you look at this finals, Wiggins would've been a great fit when golden state played small. And would have given LeBron a better robin to his batman than he had all series. The point being, LeBron can win with either Love or Wiggins.
Now look at our team and our future with Love. We were capped at a middle road team in the west, paying max money to a guy who has shown that he can't carry us to the playoffs. We have Wiggins and Towns now because we traded Love. Our future looks much better for us now than it had with Love.
We win, Caves didn't want to take a chance that Wiggins would turn out to be nothing, and they lost. Also consider the extra 10-15 mil they would have saved by keeping Wiggins as well.

I hope Wiggins is as good as most people on this forum seem to think he is (or will be).
That would be cool.
That would be cool.
Re: Revisiting the Kevin Love trade one year later
Randy Moss was often considered petulant, but that was off the field, on the field the guy was a warrior.
Kevin Garnett is an asshole, on the court and off, but was always an animal while playing.
Kevin Love was almost always petulant, on and off the court, yet he put up phenomenal numbers.
Always loved Moss, loved Garnett when he plays for the Wolves other wise hated him, and have despised Love pretty much from the get go. I was happy when KG got his ring, other than the occasional cheap play I love his game and intensity. I would be okay with Love getting a ring one of two ways, playing for the Wolves, or riding the bench/trainers table.
Not sure what that means other than I'm not racist.

Lebron lost 2 finals with D Wade and Bosh as teammates. Saying he just needs Kyrie and not Love to get it done now that he's older and less effective than he was in Miami is naive. People seem to forget the rest of the East was destroyed by injuries as well so Lebron was beating shit teams to get to the finals. He won't be able to carry a team to the finals by himself if other teams like the Wizards and Heat stay healthy this year.
Us being in a better place now than before the trade has no bearing on whether we beat them in the trade. That's an us to us comparison that doesn't involve them at all so it doesn't count when saying we beat them in the trade. Love was better than Wiggins last year so to say Love or Wiggins wouldn't have mattered is stupid and again naive. If you think we would have won more games with Love than Wiggins, then you you think Love was a better player than Wiggins last year. Take off the rose colored glasses of what Wiggins can be and evaluate based on what he is now. We simply haven't won anything yet. To declare us the winners now is premature when Love could still just as easily be a main contributor to a title winner while we're just trying to make the playoffs.

This is spot-on, especially the part I've bolded.

LeBron lost 2 finals with a banged up, going down hill, D Wade and Bosh, not much else. His supporting cast in Cleveland last year was better than the role players they had in Miami, he just didn't have the second offensive star to help him in the finals. Anybody who watched would've seen that he just needed one other player to create offense/make plays in these last finals. Kyire and Love were out in the finals, give him Kyrie and I definitely see the Cavs winning.
Us being in a better place now than before definitely has a bearing on the overall trade value in our department. Well, because we are in a better place now than we were before the trade, obviously. What we're asking here for the opposing trade partner is if the Cavs are in a better position by giving up Wiggins, Bennett, and 5-10 mil of cap space for Love, and id say no. Wiggins would've been a great fit for those small ball cavs in the finals. Delly, Shumpert, Wiggins, LeBron, TT would've been such a great defensive lineup, and wiggins would've actually provided them a sort of offense. They gave up an 18 year old rookie who has star ability who they could control for 8ish years, for a middle 20's veteran who they paid too much to contribute on one side of the ball. Anyone who watches the Cavs can see that Love is not a good fit there. He is not meant to be a 3rd option on offense who stands out by the 3pt line. He is meant to be a 1st or 2nd, and a liability on defense where you spend that 3rd max contract money on getting a few good defensive players to compensate for his lack of skill in that area. I cant wait to see Love put up 15/8 next year with what he's getting paid. Kyrie, Shumpert, LeBron, TT, Mozgov would've been great with 15ish mil to spend elsewhere. Kyrie, Wiggins, LeBron, TT, Mozgov would've been even better....
Re: Revisiting the Kevin Love trade one year later
I disagree that Love isn't a good fit with the Cavs. Defensively if Mosgov continues to be the guy on that end he was all last year Love will be just fine on that end and so will the Cavs
Offensively Love is a nice fit because he give the Cavs a guy that can actually post up which Lebron is about the only other post up guy they have. Love's shooting fits very well with Lebron but not as well with Kyrie but I expect them to figure it out much more. The Cavs are basically built with 3 unbelievable offensive threats in Lebron Kyrie and Love surrounded by role players and streaky scorers in JR Smith and Mo Williams. Remember also you can't go small against Love he will kill you on the glass and would dominate nearly all smaller players in the post.
Health is the only really thing keeping the Cavs from likely being in the Finals and possibly winning a championship. If that roster was assured of being healthy all year it's pretty damn stacked.

I agree with this take. Lebron, kyrie and love can be a complimentary and lethal trio on offense. The cavs and blatt just haven't figure out how to maximize having the 3 together.

Re: Revisiting the Kevin Love trade one year later
The Cavs were rolling before the injury bug killed their season (not winning the NBA Finals). I don't know how many times it needs to be said, but I'll say it again. Cleveland went 34-11 after acquiring Mosgov last year. He was the main piece that made their defense respectable, no disrespect to Shumpert, and in turn gave the Cavs someone to make up for Kyrie and Kevin's defensive lapses. All the pieces in place fit together perfectly. What's scary is if that team stays relatively healthy, they should be really deep. Varejao and Thompson off the bench isn't fair. Mo Williams, Matt Dellavedova and J.R. Smith can provide the streaky scoring a good bench needs. Not to mention Richard Jefferson will help them in the playoffs too.
Saying Andrew Wiggins is a better fit for the Cavs than Kevin Love right now is absurd, by the way. LeBron's on the back stretch of his career. Waiting for Wiggins to mature his game and body isn't ideal in championship-or-bust situations. You need a guy to legitimately help carry the load. Love is that guy.
