I would want more than an expiring contract for Thad. He isn't a good starting PF. Bottom line. His rebounding and defense isn't up to snuff for him to be considered good. He would be best served as a bench player who can play either forward slot. I would rather keep him and try to move him into that role over dumping him for basically nothing.

Please let us get a better deal than this but knowing the Wolves I see it going down like this.

Thad & Neal for KG doing nothing value wise if this is KG's final year. But what if we win quite a bit down the stretch? Think we can sell the sales pitch that T. Duncan won championships late and keeps going after championships in order to get him to play one last full year on what we think has the pieces to grow into a real contender? Or maybe Flip wants to groom him into our next head coach.

Guess I'm on board as a fan I want to see KG in MN as it will take me back in time remembering the good old days. I also think his leadership improves these players and he could help teach them intense defense and if he can do that then its worth the investment. I also don't think we'd have to twist his arm to hard to get him to play one more year next season and he fills what we are missing at the PF position.

But what if we get the Thug version of KG and he's a bad influence? I'll take my chances but boy would that suck!

Such an odd rumor, this Young for Garnett deal...but I tend to think it's going to happen. And I'm struggling to analyze it. I was a season ticket holder during the Garnett glory years and I appreciate the energy he brought to the tomb we call the Target Center. But I also despised his faux punk on-court act, and know too much about his despicable off-court behavior. So, I'm on the fence...I like the way he played (and to some extent, plays), don't like the guy.

I hear clearly the arguments of those who think this is a stupid deal, but I guess I am slightly in favor. Here are my reasons:

1) While I appreciate the offensive spark Thad has provided the past two weeks and I really like him as a guy, he's just never going to rebound/defend well enough to be a good NBA PF, and he's going to demand too much salary for a combo forward off the bench. I don't know what Flip thinks about Thad long-term, but FWIW, he's not in my plans.

2) Surprisingly, KG's stats measure up well with Thad's. He's not the scorer Thad is, but he has a higher PER, and has almost 2 more rebounds a game in far fewer minutes. And even at 38, his defense is far superior to Thad's. If he plays one more year, that's fine. If he doesn't, Flip has gotten out from under Thad's contract and has more cap space to work with.

3) I plan on going to a few games down the stretch, and there's no question the arena will have a buzz in it if KG is on the bench.

KG has a no-trade contract, but he still has a house here and a relationship with Flip, so I don't think he exercises it. It's a weird deal, but I think it happens. Ideally I would like to see Bud included in the deal (and doesn't something have to be added to make the numbers work?).

So we gave Brewer away for nothing and now we're giving Thad away for nothing? I'm no Thad fan either, but how does this help us?

I don't think we are giving Thad away for nothing, Lloyd. As I mentioned above, KG still has a better PER than Thad this year, and there can be no question that he is a better rebounder and defender. So for defense/rebounding guys like myself, this deal is an upgrade. I understand that the deal looks really stupid to fans who have Thad in their long-term picture, but I don't. There are times that I value him as a future scorer off the bench, but I think Flip is trying to build more of a 2-way team, and for $9 million he can certainly find a PF who can provide a little offense and also rebound and defend.

One thing I know for sure...this proposed deal is a great talker. There's going to be some great discussion up until 3 pm today.

Of course, the KG-Young thing could all be a smoke screen to drum up interest for Thad from other teams!

Agreed on using the 9 million elsewhere, so KG i'm assuming is an expiring deal? I wouldn't want to sign him for another contract.

Garnett is playing 20 mpg with several nights off. So there will be a lot of times when yes... the team is getting nothing from Garnett. As a team with any intention of getting better... the deal sucks balls.

For a team trying to lose for a higher lottery pick (but wanting to hide it under the guise of a homecoming for the franchise's greatest star)... the deal is great. Plus, there's a wrinkle in the Thad Young contract situation. Young is in control this offseason. He doesn't have to opt out, and probably wouldn't. This would unload that awkward situation from Saunders as well.

I think so too Abe. If this rumor is true, it's a move to dump Thad, but it should be a move to get a young player who could help long-term

Would you trade Mo, Brewer, Thad, Troy Daniels, and 2 firsts, for KG, Payne, Troy Daniels again, Gary Neal, and 2 2nds? I wouldn't
