Sources: Despite Doc Rivers' strong interest, Brooklyn's Kevin Garnett has ruled out contract buyout. He'll consider the one trade scenario.
[edit: i assume the "one trade scenario" is with the wolves... ]

Re: Young for Garnett trade discussed
Several reputable posters who oppose the Young/Garnett deal have said we are giving up Young for nothing, so it's clear to me that argument has some validity. I guess I have a different definition of "nothing", because I see several "somethings" in this deal:
1) Gets Flip out from under a $9+ million contract for a PF who will never board.
2) Puts a guy on the court who can help teach our young players the concept of team defense. I've seen some improvement in this recently, but still too many of them aren't getting it. KG will let them know, and that has to help the worst defense in the league.
3) Gives us another guy who can play center when Pek the Iron Horse gets his next hangnail...I'm tired of Flip having to play AB (or Robbie  ) there.
4) Puts some energy in an arena that has been dead for far too long. I've gone to two games this year, and both times I could clearly hear both coaches giving instructions to their players...and they didn't even have to be very loud. It's more fun to go to a game when there's at least some buzz in the building, and this deal would do it. I'm just one guy, but I can be loud, and this deal would likely get me off my couch and down to 1st Avenue.
I think it comes down to this. If you think Thad Young is a legitimate NBA PF who is worth nearly $10 million a year, this is a really bad deal. I don't happen to be in that camp.

Would you trade Mo, Brewer, Thad, Troy Daniels, and 2 firsts, for KG, Payne, Troy Daniels again, Gary Neal, and 2 2nds? I wouldn't
That's a good, and somewhat depressing, way of putting it, alex...pretty good summary of what has happened recently. I see it a little differently though. Flip knows what he is building here, and while Brewer, Mo and Thad had their moments, they weren't part of what he perceived as the future. The first rounders were unfortunately the cost of unloading some players that were no longer needed. Your summary is a fairly solid indictment of some moves Flip has made the past two years, and he needs to be held accountable. That doesn't change my opinion that this is the right move at this time. Giving up a 1st rounder for a guy who has always ranked in the bottom 10% of PFs in rebounding was a blunder as many of us pointed out at the time, but that's water under the bridge...this deal is an admission of past failure, but still needs to be done.

It's half of a season of a guy who can't play more then 25 minutes and is a shell of the man that he once was, how much teaching do you think he'll really be able to do Long? Thad isn't worth 10 mil, but Saunders gave up a 1st for the guy just a few months ago. Throwing that away just for a trip down memory lane is just vintage Wolves.

Hearing Kevin Garnett will speak to Timberwolves brass today about possibility of going back to Minnesota to finish things out.

Never underestimate the country club that Taylor has worked hard to create for the past 20 years.
Damn it. This means we're stuck with Sam Mitchell for quite awhile.

How can you say Flip knows what he's building when he's having to give up picks just to be able to get rid of the guys he himself signed? Wolves have a bunch of deals that are considered bad deals, and Flip signed each and every one of them

Everyone is forgetting that Hot Tub Time Machine 2 comes out on Friday. We will be getting KG 2002 back. It will be like he never left.
Re: Young for Garnett trade discussed
Flip is wheeling and dealing himself into my doghouse. Maybe we'll also get a lottery protected 1st in return. Otherwise it's a dumb deal.
