Cam, who exactly are these players that show up every year? He is playing like a top 5 overall defensive player. You find moderately talented players like Dieng most years...but not defensive anchors. For a guy that has sold Towns in every thread for the past season as our defensive savior, I am surprised to hear this side from you. I think I would do back-flips if we take Towns and he shows the same type game in year 1. My opinion, but I just don't think he is same talent as what Gobert has shown this season. Again, just my opinion.

Oh, and good job pointing out the obvious advantages Gobert's size gives him. He uses them to their greatest effect. Wiggins? He can be the "freakiest" athlete on the planet, but until he actually uses them to dominate a basketball game, they are virtually useless (i.e look at ALL of his stats this season...including scoring efficiency). Oh, but that dunk the other night, right?

I agree with you, but jordan, gasol, asik, splitter, gortat, Whiteside, mozgov second round picks I believe not saying they are all as good as Gobert but the are all defensive anchors on there team

Too bad Flip didn't pull the trigger on Whiteside when he looked at him or we'd be able filter down our draft needs a bit

Yet we somehow never end up with any of these guys. Hell, we should have held onto Koufas in hindsight, so even when we have them, we let them slip away.

I really had high hopes for Dieng as a defensive ace and he's been the exact opposite. That's still a bitter pill for me to swallow (note to self: Never, ever, ever, ever judge how good someone will be defensively if they come out of a zone defensive scheme. You just can't tell either way).

I think that only Gasol of those players is same (or higher) level than Gobert is now. Jordan and Whiteside may have comparable stats but both teams seem to be statistically better defensively when those players are on the bench. One example about how good Gobert has been this season is that he has higher PER this season than anyone of centers you listed except Whiteside and actually none of them has had higher PER in their past seasons. And we have to remember that PER is not typically favorable stat for players that good mainly in defensive side.

We also need to remember that Gobert is only 22 years old and has relatively short history in playing basketball. So we have not yet much idea how high his ceiling is. Most of the players that you listed had not yet played single game in NBA at the age of 22.

Selling the 27th pick for cash I stead of taking Gobert and his 9'7 overhead reach may go down as Flip's worst move since his hiring as our head of basketball ops.

That was an ultra cheap move. I was so mad when they did that, but forgot about it i time. Then this happens.

Isn't that more on Taylor? Haven't the Wolves done that a few times?

I know this is unfair to say because it's 100% hindsight, but can you imagine what we'd look like right now had Flip drafted Giannis and Rudy that night? Oh my...

And kept the rights to mitotic. A lineup of Rubio, wiggins, Greek freak, mitotic and Gobert. With kmart, pek, kg, Neal, lavine off the bench.

I hate hindsight though

I don't think this is on Taylor. He is not telling anyone they have to sell draft picks. I am sure he has a budget that he has told the team to work within, but no getting to this level. It is just plan bad management.
