not allowed

We were talking about it just the other day and someone said that a max contract can accelerate, decelerate or be a flat even rate. Where are you seeing that you CAN'T decelerate a max deal?

Kinda confusing but you can only declerate a contract year to year by 7.5% from the base salary.

So whatever that base salary is that first year, the number can't be less then 7.5% of that amount

So if Rubio was making 15 million a year in his first year of his max deal, he can't make less then like 13.5 million a year after

I have found out that I was wrong, and that a "designated player" has to receive 7.5% raises in each season. Therefore, no soup for you Ricky Rubio!

No way I offer him a max deal of 5/85 or whatever it might be.

I think we've exhausted the Rubio/max argument. For those who think they can determine Rubio's value, truth is you can't. The market will make that determination. If another team is willing to pay Ricky max money then that will be his market value. I think he'll end up getting something close to a 4-year max offer from another team next summer. We will see.

I tend to gravitate toward the argument that there are too many decent PG's in the league, and I don't see anyone throwing max at him.

I could see maybe Lakers or Knicks b/c they just don't care about money, but that's about it.

Let's be serious guys,

Rubios worth isn't from anything he does on the court to a degree.

The worth is that now with Love out the door, he's the only star player and ticket seller the Wolves have.

There's no way you can let him just walk and get nothing back. The cap space won't be worth it. Any picks aren't going to fly with the fanbase at that point.

Not to mention Flip hasn't shown to be tough negotiator with his deals to Pek and the rest. It would be foolish to start with Rubio, your only meal ticket at that point

Pretty sure most agree with that, but Flip has to do everything he can to try to keep Rubio around 10-12 mill per. If he can't then he just has to suck it up and match whatever offer sheet he gets next summer.

You could say Flip should of done that with Pek. He didn't. It'd be weird to change now

Pek was a FA already when he was resigned (I forget if he was restricted or not), but there were signs someone was offering him about what the Wolves gave him or more. Probably why the Wolves aded the 5th year.
