Rubio seeking 5 year max deal

Never has there been a "star" player averaging 9 points a game. Sure hes a great facilitator but for him to be a star player scoring at that rate he needs to avg 15 assists a game. 9 a game and no threat to score isnt exactly special in my eyes.

Its also crazy to me that everyone refers back to Jason Kidd when comparing Rubio to someone. Its like we just think, well if he can just shoot and do the things Kidd did at the same age we'll be fine. Kidds a Hofer and one of a kind and the only comparable player that actually turned out. Lets not refer to the hundreds of pgs that shot like garbage over the years that never improved their shot and either disappered or became career backups. Instead we say "look at Kidd!" Rubios worth 15 mil a year!!

Pek was a FA already when he was resigned (I forget if he was restricted or not), but there were signs someone was offering him about what the Wolves gave him or more. Probably why the Wolves aded the 5th year.

Pek was a RFA and it was assumed he'd be sought after. never heard anything even after the fact about teams offering anything to Pek.

Seems like Monroe is in the same boat this offseason. Been really quiet around him, but I wouldn't doubt him getting his money from Detroit even if no other team emerges as a suitor.

While I agree with you that Ricky isn't a star player, Ricky has seen his shooting percentage rise from .357 to .381 during his three season in the league giving legitimate hope that his shot will continue to improve. Whether it ever rises to 42% will probably make or break us.

I have no idea how so many people are surprised his agent is asking for a max deal. I'm even more confused as to how some people here completely devalue Rubio and suggest he somehow holds back our offense by being on the floor.

Rubio is amongst the league leaders at PG in assists, steals, and rebounds. He is as good of passer and has as good of vision as anyone in the NBA. The team is simply more efficient when he's on the court both offensively and defensively. He draws fouls, is a great (not just good) help defender, and he's developing into a leader.

If we lose Rubio and Love, we're back where we were after we lost KG.

I DO believe Rubio is a star. Is he a superstar? Definitely not. If he developed a reliable shot though, he'd not only be a better team player than Love, but he'd be a better individual player than Love...and that's saying something.

Is he worth the max? Perhaps not right as we speak, but he's not far off. He hasn't played enough years to be earning money at the same level of LeBron/Bosh/etc, so this isn't comparable to the max that Love would be getting on his next contract. Ideal to pay Rubio the max? Probably not, but if we pay him $15 mil vs $12.5 mil, it's still worth it, because if he leaves, you've got nothing.

The statement above is simply not true. You would have $15M to spend on the RIGHT player that is actually worth $15M. This has been my point all along. A team like the Wolves can't afford to continue to overpay guys just to make them stay. I don't disagree that our market dictates that we may have to spend a bit more, but this whole philosophy will permeate the roster, and then we are stuck with a $70M roster that produces like a $40M roster. It simply can't work that way.
