I know he's not available, but what about Eric Musselman as a potential defensive guru?

He's more of an offense guy than defense. Wanted him as an assistant last year. I think he was considered by flip as an assistant but either didn't get hired or didn't accept the job.

He took the HC job at Nevada.

I would like him as an assistant coach in a defense coordinator role under flip. Its a long shot as he is probably is looking for a head coaching job. But flip have respect in the coaching circles and that may make someone like brown agree to work under him as an assistant for a year or two until an opportunity as head coach elsewhere open up for him again.
That's an interesting name. I would think he is a guy that would be in demand as an assistant. Is Brown a guy that would be cool with being an assistant? Is he still getting paid by 2 teams? Lol

I have no doubt that he prefers to be a head coach. I just figure that if he ever accepts an assistant coach job, it will be under a vet coach that is well respected and regarded. Flip is a vet in the coaching circles and has his peers respect. I think mike brown will be a very good defense coordinator. He was in that role under pop and in his time in indiana. His teams where the top defensive teams when he was the head coach.
Its a long shot and it would be an expensive hire but I think he can do the job well (As defense coordinator/assistant coach).

I've always wondered why Musselman get more of a chance in the NBA as a head coach.
Golden State had its best record in more than a decade with him as head coach and he finished 2nd in COY year voting his first season. Then, the team lost its two best players (Arenas/Jamison) and the Warriors while battling injuries ended up 37 - 45... still was better than any other coach in the previous decade. (Dampier, Richardson, Cliff Robinson, Dunleavy and Speedy Claxton won 37 games!)
But a new regime came in and Chris Mullin went with Mike Montgomery... a great college coach and bad pro coach. The team got worse.
So, Musselman moved on to Sacramento. He was fired after one season. I've always been surprised he didn't get another look. There have been a lot of terrible head coaches over the years... I never thought Musselman was one of them.

Mike Brown is in line for the cavs job once Blatt is fired. Third time is a charm!

Bring me Sam Cassell! This guy needs to be our next Head Coach.
Hell, give a call to Clem Haskins and see if he has a desire. He was magical with the Gophers until he made his secretary do papers for the players! Great player coach! ;-)

Flip has said a few times in the last couple months he doesn't plan to coach this team long term. What does that mean? Idk but I'll say this there are only so many coaches in the NBA that I think are good regardless of the roster type of talent etc. I am sorta meh on Flip coaching right now unless he adds some assistants that shore up areas we are lacking in as had been suggested a couple posts ago. Now the reality is that unless you get a guy that you think is good regardless of what this roster turns into waiting another year to maybe figure out the identity of this team may be and therefore what coach may be a good fit. I wish the coach could be hired now to create a relationship with these young players but Kerr came in after a popular coach was let go and had guys buy in. I do see the merit in waiting another year to hire a HC because the reality is what we have is a collection of young talent plus some other worthwhile guys but no true identity. Hopefully that's more clear after this year.
Well said. I don't think Flip is a bad coach personally and at this point probably makes sense for him to coach another year. They key for finding a replacement is finding someone you know is better and getting them to accept the job. I don't think Flip was blowing smoke when he alluded to some coaches not seeing MN is quite ready for themselves yet. I'll start getting concerned if this time next summer the team doesn't have a new coach or at least heavily looking.
