I'll say this about the Sixers that it does seem like every time they give up something in a trade that's worthwhile they do get something in return even if it's a deferred asset that does make sense. People always say they gave away KJ McDaniels but they got a 2nd round pick (which ended up being 2015 Denver's 2nd rounder which landed them Richard Holmes who they signed to a cheap deal that locks him in if they want him) and Isaih Canaan who ain't a bad player himself and was locked in for a longer contract while KJ was basically on a 1 year deal. They have given up good young players at times but as much as I like MCW having the Lakers pick could turn out to be plenty interesting. I don't know if their plan will end up paying off but they have completely stuck to the plan and executed it well when making moves. I continue to give them props for that. At this point what will make or break them is if they can nail the bevy of draft picks they have the next few years and convince Saric to come over. part of me wants it to completely fail but part of me is quite interested to see what happens. What they are doing is more of a baseball model like David Aldridge suggested but there isn't an NBA farm system yet.

The Lakers draft pick is ten times better than MCW all day.

There's an interesting thread over at realGM asking whether Philly fans are experiencing "tank fatigue"...you couldn't blame them if they were! Overall, though, they seem to be hanging in there with the hope of something really good...not just making the playoffs, but really good...down the line. There is some deserved criticism of how they are drafting and how the pieces fit together, especially if Embiid comes back, but there's also an understanding that every draft pick is a piece that can be used in trade. If Embiid comes back healthy, you have to believe they will move one of their three bigs for a piece they really need. Then add in this year's potentially 4 first round picks (3 are protected, but right now only the Laker pick is out of the money) and Saric, and you have the potential for a very good team in a couple years. Think about this...they could have the 1st, 4th, 23rd and 27th picks in this years draft, plus a second rounder! That gives them the ability to potentially add two more blue chippers and 2 other first rounders...wow! We would really be having fun on this board playing around with those draft and trade chips.

If I'm a Philly season ticket holder, I'm probably selling at least half my games for cents on the dollar this season. But I'm buying in to the tank program and expecting playoffs in a couple years.

Saric is two years away from coming over so he doesn't get stuck on the rookie scale. So they'll be without him next year as well before he comes over the following year.

Can all the rookies who haven't punched a guy this year yet, please step forward? Not so fast Jalil.

So, Okafor has been in two nightclub incidents and was caught speeding at 108 mph ON A BRIDGE within his first month in the NBA.

Oh oh.

[Note: I joke about the "mentorship" angle... ESPECIALLY last season when the Thad Young trade was spun to be about that but was really about tanking. But you need SOMEBODY with professional experience on a basketball team to show the young guys what to do and even more importantly what NOT to do. Good lord. I see an ESPN "30 for 30" in the future about this. And the Wolves might even be included as an example of a team who went out of its way to instill professionalism at some level to offset all the youth. What's happening in Philly is what happens when math nerds without basketball knowledge are given the keys.]

Abe, there are only 3 capitalized words there, cmon man, you're slipping. But I agree, and I can't believe that we just brought this up now, he PUNCHED a guy (allegedly), i didn't know about the speeding incident. Having Cris Carter around Randy Moss is a good example. Randy wasn't an outstanding citizen, but I believe Cris helped him a lot. And I can't remember any KG "incidents" while he was here before, can you?

Sam Mitchell was that guy to keep the young Garnett out of trouble. Remember, he had a run-in in high school, so there were concerns (justified or not).

Either Sam did a great job. Garnett was a hoops junkie who did all the right things. Or, any news was squashed before it was a leaked. Or, some combo of all of that?

Well it wasn't just Sam, Terry Porter was around for a while and so was Googs and it sounds like Flip was a pretty good influence too. Of course none of that saved Marbury did it?

That's a lot of bad news about Okafor. Hopefully he gets himself straightened out. Just when the Sixers fans maybe had something else to get hopeful for...

Somewhere there must be a private message board for NBA players, and inside there must be a thread entitled "I don't think I can handle being a 76ers player" by username JO8!
