Monster - I remember that game. I was wondering if anyone had ever played 48 minutes and not scored. Brown played solid, but if we had an average PG that game we would have won.

At this point we know that Flip doesn't think Jones is ready for any meaningful minutes this year. I wonder if Rubio would go down again if he would put LaVine at PG over Jones.

Brown seems like a guy right on the cusp of being a good backup PG, but is still just not quite there yet. He's definitely a better PG than LaVine or Jones (at this stage), but I'm on the fence as to whether he's a legit #2 PG on a playoff caliber squad. I think it's a stretch.

Well we aren't a playoff caliber team so why not give him the job and see how he develops? We have Tyus and Lavine as backup options if he's terrible, but I think he'll be a better option than those two at this point. Plus if Lavine is coming off the bench with him he won't have a huge playmaking responsibility. He can be a 3 and D PG who initiates the offense.

Starting to wonder if something is up w/ the #Twolves finding a backup guard. Maybe trader Flip's next trade doesn't involve Bennett. Hmmm.

Yeah notice he said guard and that's more what Flip has said not a PGS but a guard. It might not be PG it could be a SG or a combo guard that's more SG than PG. Really anybody that can handle the ball reb if they are not a playmaker for others makes sense for this team.

FWIW

@DWolfsonKSTP: There's been #Twolves dialogue on FA PG Kendall Marshall -- his camp might've initiated. Anyway, ACL concern there. But MN on the lookout.

He's a good player and someone who I wouldn't mind at all. But still don't see why we have to address that position right now. We spent a bunch of assets on acquiring Jones and we have no idea what we have with him yet. I guess if you want to sign a guy like Marshall for 1 year I could be on board. But right now it makes zero sense to make a long term investment in any free agent PG.

Personally I don't see why we couldn't have tried to get Marshall as the long term backup from the beginning and I like the Tyus pick in general. Once agin FWIW Doogie has said that Lorenzo Brown's camp has had good feedback from the Wolves so adding Marshall could mean a glut of PGs. Maybe Flip thinks Brown can play more SG than we have considered.

I feel like Marshall seems to have shown enough the past couple of seasons to get a better shot than what we have to offer. I almost wonder if playing in one of the top leagues in Europe would be better for him. I'd take him on a 1 year deal though and be pretty pleased with it. I'd be happy with a cheap multi year deal too actually although I don't know why he would sign a multi year deal with Rubio and Tyus on the roster.

He's a good cheap option and if Ricky goes down, you got a guy who plays a similar style. He's still pretty young--he'll turn 25 in August, so he has the potential to improve his offense. If we can sign him to a cheap contract let's do it. While I think there are better all around options out there like Chalmers, Marshall would be cheaper, younger and less of a finished product, and we wouldn't have to give up anything. I think Marshall would be a good fit with the Wolves.

Adding Marshall or some other veteran-ish PG would not result in a glut since it would mean we would waive Lorenzo Brown, whose contract is not guaranteed for next season.

The real question here for the Wolves is Lorenzo Brown versus whatever cheap-ish alternatives are available. But one thing is clear: Flip doesn't see Tyus Jones as a Day One backup to Rubio. And to me, that's a good thing.
