It's not as if Barea doesn't have the capabilities to be a distributor. That just wasn't his role last season. He failed, but he was suppose to be the 2nd unit's scorer. If not him then who is getting buckets? And even given that, as far 2nd unit players (under 30 MPG) Barea had the highest AST% than any other player who played more than half the year. The problem with the 2nd unit wasn't Barea the problem was that the 2nd unit was only Barea.

Then it was a small sample but when Rubio and Ridnour went down in 11-12 he was great for the last month of the year.

16.7 PPG
3.7 RPG
9.8 APG
43 FG%
42 3P%

He's quite a while removed from that, but he can be more than a gunner. Hell, if Rubio ever put a month together like that along with his defense we'd shit ourselves.

And he has a very reasonable contract at around $4.5 million that's set to expire at the end of this season. Considering all these factors and not focusing excessively on how Barea played last season, it's clear that Barea should have decent trade value. So Flip shouldn't just give him away.

Well its as fair to focus excessively on how he played last year , if ur focusing on how he played 4 years ago for a few months. Having said that, he may have the kind of success Troy Hudson had for a few years in Flips system.

I think the problem some of these guys are gonna face is the game gets alot harder when a top 10 player isnt garnering all the attention from the defense. Assuming Love is gone.

That won't be a problem for JJ. He likes to take on 3 defenders by himself anyway.

those dallas years were a long time ago. Blaming the system for JJ is dumb. No system has your PG come down, take on 4 defenders, and try a circus layup, leading to a easy fast break. Repeat 10 times a game.

JJ's value came in the fact that every 10 or so games, he can come in and get hot and win you a game. I literally can't remember a single game JJ won for the Wolves last year.

Also Troy wasn't good in Flip's system. Because he was never good. Outside of one playoff series.

JJ has frustrated the hell out of me at times, but what did Adelman do to reign him in? Nothing. Who did JJ have on the court with him? Often no one else who could really score. I think it was kind of the perfect storm of his bad habits and having little help pushing him to go all Air JJ more often.

I'm fine seeing him go for decent value, but I'd rather see a couple of the other bad contracts go before him or maybe with him. 2 of the 5 mill contracts need to go regardless.

JJ was signed to be a spark combo guard off the bench not the first and basically only guard off the bench which he was last year and much of the previous year. Like its been said Adelman didn't do him any favors and he should have tried some other options. JJ is 30 still has that quickness and has a history of being able to shoot the 3 and being a pretty decent assist guy (statswise) for a bench guy. Is he a guy that's regressed (that's the feeling of many and I don't totally disagree) to being sort of worthless like OJ Mayo or can he find a role and be the productive player he once was? Idk and we don't know what Flip thinks of him either and we don't know what Flip's system is going to be. SL may tell us some more about the PG situation if Shved looks worthwhile or takes a dump on the court while jumping in the air to pass the ball into the bleachers.

I think JJ is in fact past his prime and isn't the same player that played that key role in the Dallas run. I do agree though, it wasn't his ideal system. Like monster said though, he thinks he can take on everyone by himself. He's got a little bit of T-Hud in him in that way.
