The Loss of Beverley and Vando
Re: The Loss of Beverley and Vando
Well, we shall see. We know that DLO, KAT, and Ant all have a tendency to exhibit lapses in defensive effort (mostly DLO), awareness (mostly Ant), and judgment (mostly KAT). A lot of us really valued Bev's edge and effort and I have no doubt he rubbed off to a degree on the others. I think Gobert brings some of that defensive leadership, minus the trash talking and gamesmanship.

Beverly is basically echoing what KG said in the video.

Re: The Loss of Beverley and Vando
I'm going to put this here. I am so glad that we won't be desperately relying on Malik Beasley this season. I hoped the Timberwolves would move him for something of value this summer and including his salary to match Rudy Gobert's in that trade is a big win to me.
When Beasley gets hot, he's as deadly of a shooter as anyone in the NBA, but man oh man is he streaky and when he's not hitting those threes he turns into a liability everywhere. It seemed like far too often last season Minnesota would be in a close game and just needed somebody off the bench to be productive whether it was Beasley, Jaden McDaniels, or Taurean Prince and Beasley would essentially try to do too much and still come up empty. It was maddening to watch as a fan despite the games he had where he was scorching.
I wish Beasley well in Utah and beyond, but I think Minnesota used his salary well and still upgraded at the position in presumably giving Jaylen Nowell a promotion in both role and minutes. We talked about this very scenario unfolding years ago and here we are. I really hope Nowell continues to progress in the right direction and really hits the ground running this season. He has the potential to be for us what Jordan Poole is for Golden State, which is a very valuable player and asset for the team.

Not that it is a big deal anymore but Pat Bev on his barstool podcast implied that he does not like finch and he is using it as motivation. Also in the 5 minutes talk about the wolves you can tell why the wolves traded pat bev because like Jon K said that he wore out his welcome behind the scenes

In hindsight, it seems to me we squeezed every ounce of juice we could out of PBev while he was here and a longer tenure had very little upside. Really hoping the Lakers implode again!

Yeah, I watched that clip. I didn't interpret what he said exactly the same way that you did, but I can definitely understand how he could have worn out his welcome with his arrogance and inflated sense of his own value. At one point during the podcast he says that he wasn't just coaching Minnesota's players, but that he was also coaching Minnesota's coaches -- letting them know that this particular way doesn't work and instead it needs to be like this, etc.
He did mention a handful of current Wolves players that he's still close with and a "big brother" to, which is cool, I guess. I tend to think that he takes far too much credit for what Minnesota accomplished last year as a team/organization and I'm sure Chris Finch won't miss him at certain times. The guy did what he was supposed to do last year as a short-term fan favorite and capable veteran with plenty of experience, but the team got significantly better and he even alluded to that in the same podcast.

Kek just curious when/where did Jon K make his comments about Beverly wearing out his welcome? Just asking since I haven't been reading all his stuff and or listening to the podcast.
The reality is with Beverly is the guy is more than a little extra. It seems to clearly drive him. The guy said Lawrence Frank was still his guy and he clearly wanted to beat the Clippers last year. It seemed pretty clear and basically alluded to it that he is looking for that one thing to be pissed about and go out and "beat their ass".
It's kinda funny that he knocks the veteran leadership when quite frankly the team added more vets to the roster than they had last year. Like Cam said he seems to have a pretty inflated sense of ego but again that probably part of why he succeeds and to be honest he does have a solid resume to make claims on too.
The thing is that like Q kinda mentioned Beverly probably wasn't going to be around past this season which is a point I made this offseason before the Gobert trade. It also seems clear that he is more valuable to the team he is on than other teams. In other words he doesn't have a great deal of trade value despite the fact that he is a good nba player. A lot of that is because he has done a good job of getting pretty solid contracts and so he isn't really a super value deal especially when you consider his age and injury history. How many teams are like yeah let's get Pat Bev and lock him up for a total of 3 years? Nobody especially when Beverly probably isn't gonna take (in his mind for) some low offer and teams figure at some point he will drop off physically.
I do think his intensity and personality isn't gonna work for everyone. Him being gone may allow some other guys to do some leading. I think one thing Beverly does that's sometimes underrated is he is so much that he kinda takes pressure off other players. Bev just said or did some whacky shit the focus ends up on him. It's probably annoying at times too but it's also something to laugh about. Edwards can certainly fill some of that role.

Im trying to remember, it was his podcast and I believe it was with Steve Terry. He also said it with barriero. Don't quote me on that though.
I will love Pat Bev though. I want to make that clear
