It'll be the Wolves who were playing hardball if he remains with the team past midnight. If he wants out he's going to need to make a significant sacrifice from next season's cap hit, otherwise at $7M they have zero reason to do anything. To me the fact they're not rolling over is a feather in Milt's cap!
I believe the holdup is whether martin is willing to give up the final year of his contract. It's clear he wont have a role going forward with the wolves. It is also clear that the wolves will only buy him out if he forgo that final year so the wolves will only have to buy him out for this season and dont have to count the money he is owed next season.
Martin knows that he probably wont get 7m from any team next season even with the cap increased. That is why he is hesitant to forgo that 7m of his final year. If he wants to play for a playoff team and is confident with himself that he can get 7m next season in free agency then he probably takes the buyout.

If Milt got him to waive next year's option, this would be a win. If not, he's soft and just let a player and his agent run over him. Would be laughable Martin and Miller end up on the Spurs for nothing. NBA Poetry.

Yup, waiving next year's option would be a win for Milt. But I wouldn't be surprised if they came up with something like a 50/50 split. There are reasonable arguments on both sides of the coin, which means it's probably a fair deal.

If they have to pay him say 2 million next year I would be ok with that since Indont think it would be a deal breaker for Glen's wallet or for the cap space. A 50/50 split would be a win for Martin IMO. I've stuck up for Martin but I don't think he deserves anything beyond this year. We will find out soon enough.
